Stitch by stitch, Juanita Martinez is creating a better future for her family and her community.“As a woman and a Hispanic, I think that I’m really proud of what we’ve done,” she said.Martinez is a co-owner of Three Amigos Graphics, a mother daughter-run business in Houston, Texas, with the third amigo being their neighborhood.“They love us,” Martinez said of her community. “I don’t know how else to put it. According to the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, those businesses account for almost trillion in annual economic spending in areas ranging from, what experts describe as, the barrio to the boardroom.“That community has continued to mature in terms of their education and their buying power, so the number trillion doesn’t surprise me,” said Randy Velarde, president of The Plaza Group, an international petrochemical marketing group.While Hispanics continue to add and impact the nation’s economy, Velarde is promoting quality over quantity.“I’m hopeful and encouraged by our ability to be more influential in other parts of society,” he said.In 2019, the number of Hispanics reached 60.6 million, making up 18% of the U.S. population, according to the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.“As go Hispanics goes Houston and in this case as go Hispanics so goes the United States,” said Dr. Laura Murillo, president the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The 49-year-old son of a prominent Macomb County, Michigan judge faces first-degree murder charges in the death of his father, whose body was found on a Florida golf course. Police said James Scandirito Jr. quickly became a suspect in the case after he called the Boca Raton police on April 1 to report his father, James "Skip" Scandirito Sr., missing. The son said his father never returned home on March 31, but Scandirito Jr.'s story had inconsistencies, according to police. Scandirito Sr.'s body was later discovered at an abandoned golf course in Boca Raton. The Alachua County police arrested Scandirito Jr. after he was seen driving his vehicle with stolen license plates. He's being held without bond in his father's death. Scandirito Sr. represented Harrison Township on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners in the 1990s and was later elected to serve as a judge in 41B District Court in Mount Clemens.  1000

Target announced on Thursday that it is targeting diversity.In a press release, the retailer says they plan to increase its Black workforce by 20% in the next three years by "sharpening its focus on advancement, retention, and hiring."“The changes we’re making are going to have a meaningful impact on the careers of our Black team members and prospective team members,” said Kiera Fernandez, Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer in the press release. “A diverse and inclusive team at Target is one where there’s equity in how we promote, retain, and hire team members. Additional leadership development, training programs, and mentorship for our Black team members, along with a focus in areas of the business where our Black representation is not as strong, will offer new career development opportunities for our team for years to come. Starting next week, KFC will offer their Beyond Fried Chicken product in select restaurants on the West Coast. The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board then determined that Kaavan be moved to an elephant sanctuary in Cambodia.On Monday, through the Eric S. Margolis Foundation, who donated the Kaavan’s flight, the elephant was transported from Pakistan to Cambodia.
