SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire Department and Bomb Squad responded to a hazmat situation in Kearny Mesa Monday. According to the department, the incident started just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Balboa Avenue and Ponderosa Avenue near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, workers at Senior Aerospace Jet Products routinely put titanium shavings in barrels. Monday afternoon, one of the barrels, a 55-gallon drum, began to get hot and started expanding. Firefighters arrived at the business and poured water on top of the barrel to cool the contents after evacuating the building. The bomb squad and hazmat technicians were also called to the scene and, after opening the barrel, say the titanium was reacting with another chemical. Shortly before 7 p.m., the area was declared safe and the barrel turned over to the company for proper disposal. 924

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Communications Office reminded residents Thursday that they have access to nearly 55,000 e-books and audiobooks for free via the county library system.County residents can download digital titles to their tablet or e-reader by downloading the Libby app and linking it with their library account.Residents can also use the library's Overdrive program to download digital titles and collections.E-books and audiobooks can be checked out for seven, 14 or 21 days. At the end of the check-out period, the title will return to the library's collection, eliminating late fees and the possibility of physical damage to the title.According to the county library, digital checkouts in 2018 have increased by roughly 50 percent to more than 1.5 million compared to 2017. The county library system is one of 30 in the world to surpass 1.5 million digital checkouts."The Library encourages reading in every way -- to develop skills, create opportunities and motivate a love of reading,'' said Migell Acosta, the county's library director. "To meet the community's steadily increasing interest in audiobooks and e-books, we have made significant investments into our digital collections, and we look forward to adding many new titles in 2019.''The library's digital collection also includes more than 150 magazines along with its collection of e-books, according to the county. YouTube says it will ban supremacist content and remove videos that deny well-documented atrocities, like the Holocaust and the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school.
