SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans posted images and updates about the fierce Valley Fire burning out of control in the Japatul Valley on Saturday night.Photos and videos shot from various locations around San Diego show a large ominous plume of smoke over the county. Others show videos of flames near the scene of the fire, and at least one local resident miles away from the fire documented ash falling from the sky.As of late Saturday night, fire officials said the blaze has scorched about 1,500 acres. Crews continue to battle the fire under harsh conditions, including strong winds and high heat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are searching for a gunman after one person was shot and injured in the Logan Heights area on Sunday.Police said a 24-year-old man was sitting on his porch at 2248 Ocean View Blvd. when a vehicle drove up. A suspect exited the passenger side of the vehicle and fire one shot, hitting the victim in the buttocks.The suspect got back in the vehicle and fled the scene.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.SDPD officers are investigating the shooting. 532

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Crime Stoppers released photos of a suspect and offered a reward Thursday for tips about an assault in the Midway area. A man parked his vehicle along the side of the Arby’s at 3777 Midway Drive April 6 about 7 p.m., inadvertently cutting off another driver. The man went inside the restaurant and got into an argument with the driver. During the fight, the driver punched the victim in the head eight times, police said. The victim fell to the ground and the driver stomped on his head with his feet, according to investigators. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for an orbital fracture. The suspect drove away from the area, police said. He is described as white, about 30 years old, with a muscular build. The sides and back of his head are shaved, according to officers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police arrested nine people suspected of driving under the influence Saturday night. According to the department, the checkpoint was held on the 1400 block of G Street between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. A total of 2,403 vehicles went through the checkpoint, police say. More than 400 vehicles were screened, 13 drivers evaluated and nine people arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. San Diego Police said in a news release that they plan to conduct another DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location on Halloween. The department also plans to increase patrol on Halloween to screen for intoxicated drivers. This week, companies like Uber are offering tips on how to get around for Halloween. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the public to help find the driver who left a man with several severe injuries along an Ocean Beach street last month.Police say at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 6, a 64-year-old man was walking his bike northbound in the bicycle lane of the 4000 block of Nimitz Blvd. The suspect, driving a newer model Nissan Versa Note hatchback (shown below), struck the victim. The driver sped off, leaving the man severely injured.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from several fractures to his pelvis, ribs, fibula, and foot. He also suffered lacerations and injuries to his bladder and liver. The man is expected to survive but remains hospitalized, police say.Police say the Nissan should have damage to its passenger side front headlight, fender, and side view mirror.
