PETERSBURG, Fla. – An NFL wide receiver has been charged in connection with an alleged scheme to file “fraudulent loan applications” to get COVID-19 relief money from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).Joshua Bellamy, 31, is facing federal charges for wire fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud. According to the U.S. Justice Department, the former Bears receiver conspired with others to get millions of dollars in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, which he then spent on luxury items.The DOJ said in a press release that Bellamy applied for an received a PPP loan of more than .24 million for his company, Drip Entertainment LLC. Bellamy then allegedly spent more than 4,000 in luxury goods from Dior, Gucci and retail jewelers “using proceeds of his PPP loan,” DOJ said in a press release.Bellamy is also accused of spending more than ,000 in PPP loan proceeds at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and withdrew more than 2,000, the DOJ alleges.Bellamy is a native of St. Petersburg, Florida and played collegiately at Louisville. Though he went undrafted, he eventually caught on with the Chicago Bears and started 57 games for the team between 2014 and 2018. He spent last season with the New York Jets, and his season ended early after he injured his shoulder. Someone's prank WiFi name caused havoc in Saginaw Township, Michigan on Sunday, forcing the evacuation of a Planet Fitness Gym for three hours, the Saginaw News reported. According to the Saginaw News, a Planet Fitness customer was searching for available WiFi options when they found the WiFi name "remote detonator" among the connections. The customer brought the name to the attention of the gym's manager who notified police. A bomb-sniffing dog was used, and no explosives were found. A Planet Fitness spokesperson told the Saginaw News that the manager had followed proper procedure. "If there's any suspicion of any device or anything in the club that would require police attention, the protocol is they close the facility and contact police," McCall Gosselin told the newspaper. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tropical Storm Iota formed Friday in the Caribbean and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches Central America. This is the 30th named storm in 2020's record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season.The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Iota could bring dangerous wind, storm surge and rainfall to Nicaragua and Honduras by Sunday night. Iota currently has sustained wind speeds of 40 mph and it is expected to strengthen as it approaches land.The National Hurricane Center predicts Iota will bring 20-to-30 inches of rain across the Nicaragua and Honduras border, and could drop 4-8 inches of rain across portions of northern Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica. It could wreak havoc in the same region where people are still grappling with more than 120 deaths and many more missing in the aftermath of Hurricane Eta. Eta then regained strength and soaked the west coast of Florida before moving into the southeast states and causing severe flooding in North Carolina on Thursday. Several countries have started shifting to a shorter quarantine recommendation.Places like France are now telling COVID-19 patients to quarantine for seven days instead of 14. Other countries like Spain, Belgium and Germany are having people quarantine for 10 days.The idea here is that a shorter quarantine is better than no quarantine at all. Some people may find it difficult to self-isolate and because of the long period, they may not attempt to do it.“If you have a job that requires you to be there, you’ll miss two weeks’ worth of work,” said Marcus Plescia, Chief Medical Officer at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials. “Even if you have a job with really good benefits, where you can take sick leave and they can accommodate that, even in that situation, it’s going to be difficult for most people.”Another idea that supports this is that many people will not need the full two weeks to develop COVID-19 symptoms. The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials says the vast majority of people are showing symptoms within four to six days.They do say that the downside to shorter quarantine is that there is the possibility they will miss some people who start showing symptoms later on.Utah is one state that has approved a shorter quarantine period under certain guidelines. The governor there has allowed students to return to school after seven days of quarantine, if they have not shown symptoms. That’s specifically for students who were wearing a mask and were at school when they were exposed.Some more states are also considering a shorter quarantine time for children in grades K-12.“They tend to be asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, so there’s not a danger for the most part, there’s not a danger to the children themselves,” said Plescia.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently looking at shorter quarantine periods for college-age students.Depending on what they find, the CDC may be able to issue new guidance on self-isolation periods to get states on the same page. 2065
