SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family from Chula Vista is desperately looking for their 9-year-old loved one. Erik Ochoa was swept away by the current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday. Ochoa lives in Tijuana with his father. His sisters, Zusel and Hilary live in Chula Vista. The boy was with two other children walking along the beach in Rosarito when they were swept away. One boy made it out of the current and ran to get an adult nearby. The third child washed ashore, lifeless, 25-minutes after going missing. Erik hasn't been seen since. The sisters have been looking for their brother since they heard about what happened. They've been going from Imperial Beach all the way down to Border Field State Park.The Mexican Navy is actively searching on the Mexican side. The U.S. Coast Guard broadcast a message to boaters telling them to be on the lookout. Erik was last seen wearing green shorts and a striped shirt. The family tells 10News the Mexican Navy will search until Sunday.  1008

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Even the MCAS Miramar Airshow, one the county's largest single day events, couldn't escape the impact of COVID-19.As the fight with the pandemic continues resulting in the cancellation of numerous activities and events in San Diego, producers of the MCAS Miramar Airshow set out to bring fans the exciting visuals from everyone's favorite military and civilian performers. The Marine Corps Community Services and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar created a special one-hour show titled, "2020 Vision – a Miramar Airshow production."The show features interviews with local civilian and military leaders, and performers who share their experiences about participating in the event. "We capture our airshow tradition's exciting spirit with new storytelling that brings you a side of these aviators that you would otherwise not get at the full airshow," said Capt. Matthew 'Red Bull' Gregory, Director of Communication at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.Cameras will take viewers behind the scenes and up in the air to capture the drama that happens over the skies of San Diego."It is a unique video for a unique time," he said.The show will also bring viewers up close to the event's biggest draw, the Marine Air Ground Task Force Demonstration, or MAGTF, a combined cooperation between tanks and infantry and aviation assets."We have an epic show bringing back some of your favorites – Jon Melby, Vicki Benzing, Aaron Fitzgerald, and the Red Bull Helo - as well as highlighting what makes Marine aviation some of the best in the world," said Gregory.It's only the third time the show has had to shut down since the Marine Corp. took over the base in 1997.The show will be broadcast Saturday, October 17 at 11 A.M. on the ABC 10News Facebook page, on 10News.com and apps, and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Facebook page. 1853

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -  A driver led CHP officers on an hour-long pursuit from Southern Orange County to Mission Valley Wednesday night.The chase ended on the onramp from southbound I-805 to westbound I-8.Ray Scheidnes, with California Highway Patrol, says the chase started in the San Juan Capistrano area when they received reports of someone driving erratically just after 6:30 p.m.When they tried to pull over the driver, she instead drove south on I-5 into San Diego County and eventually onto I-8.  The driver even called into 9-1-1 dispatch and tried to explain why she wasn't stopping.“I believe that she was afraid to pull over, mentioned something about possibly having some previous run-ins with law enforcement that she didn't think went too well,” Scheidnes said.Scheidnes also added they’re not quite sure why she eventually stopped in Mission Valley.“The vehicle didn't seem to run out of gas or have any mechanical problems, just came to a stop, I think she just decided to pull over,” he said.CHP says the driver is an Orange County resident. She has not been identified. There are no immediate signs of drugs or alcohol, but she could be facing charges of resisting arrest and failure to yield.  1247

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A first of it's kind scholarship is up for the taking for female high school seniors pursuing a college sports career.Solana Beach athletics wear company, HYLETE, calls it their "GRACEDBYGRIT" scholarship."We all experience these gritty moments in our lives and those gritty moments are what define us, they give us our strength and it's what you do with those gritty moments that gives you your grace," Vice President of HYLETE Kate Nowlan said.Nowlan played Softball and swam in high school. She said sports have a huge impact on young women, "they have a greater chance of success professionally but also their self confidence is higher."A 2014 Ernst & Young and espnW study found 52% of female executives played sports in college. "This is one small way we can contribute to someone's success," Nowlan said, referring to the ,000 scholarship they're awarding for the first time.High school seniors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be pursuing college sports and have a story of overcoming adversity. The applicant must write an essay and complete a short video describing that trying moment and how it taught her grace.Nowlan said her grit came when she was 20-years-old and became Maggi's mother, "she was often in my front pack while I finished my degree which was definitely a graceful way of doing it, but a really hard time in my life." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Chula Vista World War II veteran celebrated the 100th birthday of a lifetime, with help from hundreds of strangers.The celebration was made possible through Arthur Brook, a 9-year-old dedicated to preserving the stories of WWII veterans. He's been interviewing veterans living at the Veterans Home of California, Chula Vista"Since they were at least in their 90's, to be registered in the military during WWII, they wouldn't be here for much longer," said Arthur.When Arthur learned Army veteran Edwin Schwimmer was turning 100 in September, he wanted to give him a special gift. "We quickly made a decision to make it the most special birthday in a long time!" the 9-year-old added.Arthur put out a call requesting birthday cards and received hundreds from around the country. "So many people thought to send him cards, I just wanted to thank them all, who sent cards to Edwin Schwimmer to thank him for his service to our country," said Arthur. Schwimmer was stunned at the number of people who took the time to write him a letter. "There's no words I can express how I feel," said Schwimmer, "I'm the luckiest guy in the world, the luckiest guy in the world."Arthur says he'll continue his mission to interview as many WWII veterans as possible. 1277
