SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A driver struck a fire hydrant outside San Diego International Airport Saturday, causing water to rocket into the sky outside Terminal 2 and headaches inside the airport.Terminal 2's East entrance on West Harbor Drive was temporarily closed after the driver struck the hydrant along the terminal's departure lanes around 10:40 a.m. Airport officials also closed Terminal 2 East's concessions and directed all traffic through Terminal 1.At one point, vehicles backed up onto Harbor Dr. as drivers encountered the closure caused by the geyser, according to a witness. Fire crews worked feverishly for about two hours, as gallons of water and kicked up rocks showered them below, before the water was turned off around 12:35 p.m. 753

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  At 14 stories high, The tower apartments in downtown San Diego have some nice views. But when you're trying to get down without an elevator - it can be a challenge. Carol Clark says she was left with no choice but to take the stairs from her 13th-floor apartment to go the grocery store on Thursday afternoon. "I did it today but trust me I was breathing heavy when I came in," she said. Clark is one of the 200 senior residents living in the high rise building - a building designated for people over the age of 65. The residents say they've lost count on how many times they elevator has gone out. That's why they decided to call 10News for help. Although the second elevator was working when 10News arrived, residents tell us that wasn't the case for most of the day. They say it's something that happens a lot lately. "There are people here with walkers and wheelchairs," Clark said. "I'm scared to death for them."One neighbor in a wheelchair broke down in tears during our interview. "It's people's safety," he said. "Not just mine, but everybody else."The building is undergoing renovations - which residents say they appreciate. But they say the upgrades don't make it ok to shut down one of the two elevators and leave them with an elevator that they describe as unreliable at best. "Everybody is extremely upset," Clark said. "And the thing is we don't seem to be getting many answers."The residents told 10News they've taken their concerns to management many times but have seen no changes. They say they hope something is done soon, before an emergency happens and it's too late. 10News called the on-site manager and the property management company but have not yet received a response. "It's a stressful situation not knowing if something happens are they gonna be able to get downstairs," Clark said.   1901

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A battle is brewing between the San Diego bay cruise companies over which companies can start up again and which ones cannot. Some companies are cleared to resume dinner cruises next weekend, while others are still stuck at the docks. On Hornblower Cruises & Events’ Facebook page, the announcement is up that it's reopening this upcoming weekend. Wednesday, the fleet was docked but starting Saturday, the company is offering dining cruises through the bay. “At the moment, we have not been permitted to leave the dock,” said Carole Noska, owner of Charter Services. She told 10News that her boat and other charters still can't operate bay tours. County guidelines only permit recreational boating, not charters, and the recreational sailing is only for passengers within the same household. The County reports that dining cruises, though, are fine to set sail so long as they operate within the County's dine-in guidelines for restaurants.“We probably lost ,000 to ,000 over Memorial weekend after having already been at the dock for the last two months since COVID started," Noska told 10News and added, “Those of us in the legal charter community the credentialed vessels for charter would just ask that the County and the Port and the State level the playing field.”In a press release, Hornblower Cruises & Events provided an extensive list of safety measures its implementing, including social distancing aboard, and facial covering requirements. The company sent 10News the following statement on Wednesday."In accordance with the latest Stage 2 Variance which now permits dine-in restaurants to operate, we are thrilled to be able to offer a limited choice of seated dining cruises starting this weekend. Like other restaurants within the County, we are adhering to the specific guidelines laid out in the San Diego Safe Onsite Dining Plan for Restaurants and the State guidance for Dine-in restaurants. In addition to already stringent cleaning protocols, we are adapting the onboard experience to reflect the need for social distancing, alongside elevated health and hygiene practices. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three people suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds this morning in the Mount Hope Community of San Diego, a police officer said.A group of people were in the area of Market and Denby streets about 1:45 a.m. when several gunshots were heard and three people were shot, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 39-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in the buttocks and legs and a 30-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his lips, Heims said.All three men were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds and police had no suspect information. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The wife of an active-duty Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton is due in court Thursday on charges of sexually abusing a 15-year-old foreign exchange student who was living with her family on the base.Nicole Marie Wilson, 22, is accused of engaging in sex acts with the unidentified teen on Sept. 20 against his wishes, according to court documents.A detention hearing is scheduled Thursday morning for Wilson, who pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a single count of sexual abuse of a minor in San Diego federal court.Court documents allege Wilson sat next to the boy on the living room couch and asked him to promise that he wouldn't tell her husband, no matter "whatever happens tonight."After their initial encounter made him uncomfortable, the boy told investigators he went to sleep and awoke to Wilson touching him, then performing oral sex on him. She asked him twice whether she should continue, and one time he said, "No," yet she continued anyway, then later had sexual intercourse with him, according to the criminal complaint.She later "apologized" to him "and acknowledged" that it was not consensual, the documents allege.Wilson allegedly told Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigators she had been drinking on Sept. 20 and "blacked out" while watching television with the boy, but denied anything sexual occurred. But a search of her cell phone revealed WhatsApp messages between herself and the teen that confirmed the sexual encounter, court documents allege.It was not clear how long the teen had been living with the family, nor what country he traveled from as part of the foreign exchange program. 1648
