US rapper A$AP Rocky has been found guilty of assault and handed a conditional sentence after a street brawl in Stockholm. The performer and two members of his entourage were convicted by a Swedish court on Wednesday, following a confrontation in the Swedish capital on June 30.Stockholm District Court said in its ruling that the performer's claim of self-defense had been rejected."The defendants have claimed that they acted in self-defense. Based on statements from two witnesses, the court finds that the defendants were not subject to a current or imminent criminal attack. Therefore, they were not in a situation where they were entitled to use violence in self-defense. Nor could they have perceived themselves to be in such a situation."Swedish public prosecutor Daniel Suneson had argued during the trial that the artist and the two other men -- David Rispers and Bladimir Corniel -- assaulted the victim by kicking and beating him with a whole or part of a glass bottle while he lay on the ground.A$AP Rocky, who pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, had argued that the trio were simply defending themselves. The rapper will avoid more jail time, however. The musician was handed a conditional sentence after the court determined the assault was not "of a serious nature" and did not justify more jail time.Known for his song "Praise the Lord," the 30-year-old rapper -- whose real name is Rakim Mayers -- was released by Swedish authorities at the conclusion of the trial on August 2 and left the country shortly afterwards. He was not required to appear in court for Wednesday's ruling. The incident angered fans and fellow artists, and strained diplomatic relations with the United States after President Donald Trump repeatedly demanded the rapper's release, even raising the issue with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan L?fven. In response, L?fven's spokesperson Mikael Lindstr?m said in a statement to CNN at the time that "the Government is not allowed, and will not attempt, to influence the legal proceedings, which are now ongoing."Swedish officials repeatedly stressed that the country's judiciary is "completely independent" and "does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others."The rapper addressed the case during a performance at a music festival in California on Sunday, 2340

Two Democratic congresswomen on Tuesday introduced a bill that would block federal funding for the 2026 men's World Cup until the US Women's National Team earns "fair and equitable wages compared to the US men's team."The legislation, co-sponsored by Reps. Doris Matsui of California and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, comes amid the team's longstanding battle for equal pay.Months before the tournament, members of the Women's National team filed a lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation, claiming they deserve to be paid what the American men are paid for their international performances. In one hypothetical case cited in the lawsuit, if the women's and men's teams both won 20 straight games in a season, the women would make 38% what the men do.Matsui and DeLauro say the federal government shouldn't make any financial contribution for the 2026 tournament, which will be spread through venues across the US, Canada and Mexico, until the playing field is level for female athletes."Until the USSF provides real reforms ensuring equitable pay for our male and female athletes, the U.S. government has no business contributing potentially billions of dollars in support for the 2026 World Cup," Matsui said in a statement.DeLauro said federal funding for the men's tournament in 2026 would be "encouraging the pay gap to continue.""Congress needs to ensure women in the same job are getting the same pay," DeLauro said in a statement. Two weeks ago, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin introduced a Senate version of the bill, which would similarly block federal funding until US Soccer agrees to "provide equitable pay."Still, it's unclear just how much money would actually be withheld if the bills succeed in Congress. 1728

WAVERY, Ohio — One of the women accused of lying to cover up eight rural Ohio slayings in 2016 wants to return to church to teach Sunday school. In a supplemental memorandum asking to modify the conditions of 76-year-old Fredericka Wagner's house arrest filed in Pike County court Jan. 31, her attorney asked Judge Randy Deering to allow Wagner to leave her home to visit Lucasville Mission Church on Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in order to attend services from 2 to 3 p.m. and teach Sunday school from 3 to 4 p.m.Wagner has attended services and taught Sunday school at the church "each and every week since 1976," other than when she was caring for her dying husband, her attorney wrote in the court filing. In a letter supporting Wagner's request, Pastor Aaron David Spencer wrote that she "needs the spiritual strength she gains from attending our Praise and Worship.""I can attest to the fact that Fredericka Wagner never missed a service with exception of the time her husband was on hospice ... She began attending the Mission again the very next Sunday and never missed a service since," he wrote. "She was there every time services were held from August 21, 2017 until she was arrested November 13, 2018. We respectfully ask that she be allowed to attend our services on Sunday."The church's small congregation of about 30 has dwindled to an average of just eight to 10 people each Sunday since "the recent legal events," Spencer wrote."Her Sunday school class is without a teacher and the children miss her very much," he wrote. "Several of them have stopped coming to church since she is not there."Wagner is accused of lying to an investigative grand jury about the deaths of eight members of the Rhoden family in 2016, as well as discussing her testimony afterward against a judge's instructions. Her son, George "Billy" Wagner III; daughter-in-law, Angela Wagner; and grandsons, George Wagner IV and Edward "Jake" Wagner, are accused of carrying out the slayings. Angela's mother, Mary Jo Newcomb, is also accused of lying to cover up the crimes. The judge ordered Fredericka Wagner be held on electronically monitored house arrest pending her trial. She has also sought permission from the court 2223

Unvaccinated people under age 18 are banned from public places in Rockland County, New York, as of midnight Wednesday, according to John Lyon, director of strategic communications for County Executive Ed Day.Day will announce the order Tuesday. The declaration is an effort to contain an outbreak of measles that began in October; 153 cases have been confirmed in the county."We're not punishing the people who are doing the right thing already and following the rules. We just want to encourage everyone to do the right thing so we can stop this outbreak," Lyon said. The step is "extremely unusual. [We] don't believe it's been done anywhere in the country before."Measles is a highly contagious virus that is prevented with the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that the two-dose vaccine be given at 12 to 15 months of age and the second between age 4 and 6.This is the 26th week -- the sixth month -- of the outbreak in Rockland County, according to Lyon, who said it has been the longest outbreak in the United States since before measles was declared eliminated in 2000.Public places include synagogues, churches, schools, restaurants, stores and public buses. Children who are current with the vaccine schedule but not fully vaccinated against measles because they are not old enough are exempt from the order. The order does not apply to people who are older than 18 because "we did not want to prevent anyone from going to work," but unvaccinated adults are also encouraged to get vaccinated. It will be enforced the same way any law is enforced, according to Lyon: During the investigation into when and where an infected individual was exposed, those who are identified as unvaccinated and people in public places will be referred to the district attorney's office."The goal is not to prosecute people. We don't want to fine people. We want to encourage people to get vaccinated," he said.Nearly 17,000 vaccinations have been administered in the county during the outbreak. But Lyon said residents are becoming fatigued, are not returning calls from the health department and are declining to speak with health investigators who visit in person. "We need people to help protect everyone in the community," Lyon said. The outbreak has mainly been isolated in a couple of communities within Rockland County, which is just north of New York City, but the whole community is at risk, he said, noting that there have been complications among patients, including a premature labor and a handful of hospitalizations."Every new confirmed case is a roll of the dice that we'll see more complications. There's a lot that can go wrong with any case."New York City has also been dealing with this measles outbreak, with 181 cases reported since October, according to the city Department of Health. The outbreak began when an unvaccinated resident became infected while visiting Israel and returned with the disease. It has mostly affected observant Jewish neighborhoods. Statewide, there have been at least 345 cases of measles reported since October. This year, 314 cases have been reported nationwide, according to the CDC. 3225
