BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's central government will, for the first time, reserve vacancies for farmers and workers in this year's nationwide civil service exams.The announcement was made on Wednesday by the State Administration of Civil Service (SACS), which is in charge of recruiting central government employees.Millions of farmers living in the country's rural areas were not allowed to take the exam selecting central government officials until 2006, when the restriction of household registration, or hukou, was lifted.According to the administration, those reserved vacancies will be allocated among departments of the customs, state taxation and railway police at country-level or below.The SACS posted a notice for the exams on its website, but did not specify the number of reserved vacancies.The central government plans to recruit more than 16,000 public servants in 2011, 1,000 more than in 2010. About 85 percent of the vacancies require at least two-years grassroots work experience, up 15 percentage points from the previous year.The SACS also revealed that 100 positions were specially created for college graduates who had served in villages to encourage more college students to work in rural regions after graduation.Registration for this year's exams will start on Friday.

BRUSSELS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- China expected an early resumption of the six-party talks to ease tensions and resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Tuesday.All parties should make joint efforts to ease tensions between the south and the north on the peninsula and strive to resume the six-party talks at an early date, said Wen while meeting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on the sidelines of the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels."This is in the fundamental interests of all parties involved and is conducive to peace and stability in the region," he said.The six-party talks, a multilateral mechanism designed to peacefully denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, were launched in 2003. The talks involve China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States.Speaking of the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) Seoul Summit, slated for Nov. 11-12, Wen said it was of great significance for boosting the world economic recovery, adding that China would support South Korea in seeking positive outcomes at the meeting.Wen said China regards South Korea as a friendly neighbor and an important partner. TALLINN, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), opened here on Wednesday the first Confucius Institute in the Baltic region.Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau, said he hopes the facility, jointly launched by Estonia's prestigious Tallinn University and China's Guangxi University with the help of the Chinese Language Council ( also known as Hanban), would serve as a regional center for spreading Chinese culture and offer quality courses for Estonians who are interested in the Chinese language and eager to understand the Chinese culture.Tallinn University is the sole university in this Baltic country that boasts a Chinese major. It has enrolled Chinese- learning students in the past two decades.Rein Raud, rector of the university, reached an agreement with China's Hanban to set up a Confucius Institute on campus during a visit to Beijing in February.
