SpaceX’s test flight of its next-generation Starship rocket was deemed a success, despite a bit of an explosive landing.As part of the launch, SpaceX attempted to perform a “flip landing” of the rocket. Although the flip landing resulted in the rocket blowing up, the finish was not unexpected.“Lot of things need to go right, so maybe 1/3 chance,” SpaceX founder Elon Musk said last month about the odds of the rocket nailing the landing.The rocket’s mission was not to leave Earth’s atmosphere, but to test several parts of the Starship rocket.“This suborbital flight is designed to test a number of objectives, from how the vehicle’s three Raptor engines perform to the overall aerodynamic entry capabilities of the vehicle (including its body flaps) to how the vehicle manages propellant transition. SORRENTO VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - Another San Diego-based company is moving forward on developing a vaccine for the coronavirus. Sorrento Therapeutics is working on several projects that they believe could lead to viable vaccines or treatments. One of them was announced on Monday. Sorrento Therapeutics said it was partnering with Boston-based Smartpharm to create a gene-encoded antibody vaccine. “In the effort to more quickly resolve the global COVID-19 crisis, our company has initiated a rapidly accelerated program for the identification of potent neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus antigens that may be used for either treatment or prophylaxis,” said Henry Ji, CEO of Sorrento Therapeutics. Sorrento Therapeutics is also working on another vaccine called the I-Cell project. That vaccine uses a decoy virus to activate a person’s immune system to train it to attack the real virus. It’s also developing a protein called COVIDTRAP that can bind to the receptors on the coronavirus, thus blocking it from being able to bind to the receptors on healthy human cells. If proven succesful, it could be used as a treatment or preventative measure.How long will it take for them to be ready?“That all depends on what leeway the FDA gives us,” said Mark Brunswick, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Sorrento Therapeutics. SIGNAL HILL (CNS) - A single-engine airplane made a safe landing on a street near Long Beach Airport today, with no injuries reported.The airplane, which had just taken off from the airport, set down about 10:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of Orange Avenue, said airport spokeswoman Cassie Chauvel.The Long Beach Fire Department said in a Twitter posting that the plane ``lost power shortly after performing a touch and go off runway 26L.''The pilot was unhurt, and there was no damage to the plane, according to the LBFD.The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the pilot was the lone occupant of the Piper PA28. 625

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is demanding the Federal Aviation Administration increase inspections of aircraft maintenance after his office reviewed agency records and found that enforcement and fines specifically for maintenance issues have dropped over the last several years.Schumer's office asserts that formal enforcement actions for airline maintenance issues decreased after 2014 and dropped dramatically in 2017. The data was compiled from the agency's quarterly reports on civil enforcement penalties, according to a statement from his office.The New York Democrat said the decline in maintenance enforcement raises serious concerns about whether the FAA is meeting its oversight mandates.
