WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal health officials warned parents Wednesday about the dangers of teething remedies that contain a popular numbing ingredient and asked manufacturers to stop selling their products intended for babies and toddlers.The Food and Drug Administration said that various gels and creams containing the drug benzocaine can cause rare but deadly side effects in children, especially those 2 years and younger.The agency has been warning about the products for a decade but said reports of illnesses and deaths have continued. Symptoms include shortness of breath, headache and rapid heart rate.The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend teething creams because they usually wash out of the baby's mouth within minutes. Instead, the group recommends giving babies teething rings or simply massaging their gums to relieve pain.The FDA issued warnings about the teething products in 2006, 2011 and 2014, but it did not call for their removal from the market. Officials reviewed 119 cases of the blood disorder linked to benzocaine between 2009 and 2017, including four deaths, according to the FDA.Wednesday's action comes more than four years after the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen petitioned the FDA to stop sales of teething products. VISTA (CNS) - A Catholic priest who grabbed a seminary student's groin from behind in a restroom stall during a night of drinking at a Carlsbad restaurant was convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery Monday.A jury deliberated about two hours before finding the Rev. Juan Garcia Castillo guilty.Castillo, who had worked at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad since 2011, faces six months in jail and registration as a sex offender when he is sentenced Jan. 18, said Deputy District Attorney Joshua Brisbane.The 33-year-old victim -- a former Navy attorney who left the military to join the priesthood -- testified that he had met Castillo the night before the incident, which happened about 1 a.m. on Feb. 4.According to court testimony, the victim went to the restroom to be sick, and was in a stall when Castillo grabbed his genitals from behind.The victim testified that he told Castillo to go away, but the defendant came back in the stall and massaged the victim's groin in a sexual way.Castillo, 35, testified that he followed the victim into the restroom because it looked like he was going to be sick. The priest said he tried to put pressure on the victim's stomach to stop his vomiting because his mother had taught him that trick as a child.The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego suspended Castillo once it learned of the "credible allegation" against him. 1371

VISTA (KGTV) – One person is dead and four more injured after three motorcycles crashed in Vista Saturday night.The crash happened at the intersection of Monte Mar Road and East Vista Way around 6:30 p.m. The motorcyclist who died is 55, but authorities did not release his name.Deputies say at least three motorcycles and one car were involved in the crash. All of the motorcyclists are part of the same club.Deputies say three Harley’s crashed with a Toyota Camry. Authorities don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 544

WASHINGTON — U.S. government agencies were ordered Monday to scour their networks for malware and disconnect potentially compromised servers after authorities learned that the Treasury and Commerce departments were hacked in a monthslong global cyberespionage campaign discovered when the prominent cybersecurity firm FireEye learned it had been breached. Monday afternoon the Department of Homeland Security itself was added to the list of agencies that have been compromised, according to the Washington Post. The list of victims is expected to grow and could include both more government agencies and private companies. FireEye would not say who it suspected. But many experts believe the operation is Russian given the careful tradecraft. FireEye says foreign governments and major corporations were also compromised. Federal agencies have long been attractive targets for foreign cyberspies. The Department of Homeland Security's cybersecurity arm warned government agencies of an "unacceptable risk" the executive branch.
