BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The output value of China's energy saving and environmental protection industry would hit 2.8 trillion yuan (412 billion U.S. dollars) by 2012, said Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission on Sunday.     Those sectors have become a new economic growth point and have bright prospects in China, Xie said at the fourth China-Japan Energy-saving and Environment Protection Forum which began Sunday.     He said the government will beef up investment in the construction of resource recycling projects, which will directly boost the industry development.     He noted the government will further reform the pricing system of the resource products.     Enterprises should also enhance innovation to break technological bottleneck notably in the development of clean coal transfer technology and pollutants treatment facilities.     China has been pushing for a national energy saving campaign to address the worsening conflicts between economic growth and environmental deterioration.

BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao played a major role in ensuring the success of the meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by putting forward proposals to tackle the financial crisis and enhance regional cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Sunday. Wen returned to Beijing Sunday evening after attending the meetings, including the 12th summit between the ASEAN and China (10+1), the 12th summit between the ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (10+3), the fourth East Asia Summit, in Hua Hin of Thailand from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25. Yang noted that Premier Wen put forward a number of proposals and measures, which both tackle the immediate urgent tasks and issues of common concern and take into account long-term strategic planning. BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday warned that the rich nations should not "shift and shirk" responsibility on climate change, and urged them to provide developing countries with funds to deal with the global issue.     "According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), developed countries have responsibility to offer financial support to all developing countries on mitigating and adapting to climate change," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman told a regular news briefing.     "Funding is one of the key issues that will determine the success or failure of the Copenhagen conference. The offer of funds is the unshirkable responsibility of developed countries," said Jiang.     The UN Climate Change Conference, which opened Monday in Copenhagen, gathered representatives from 192 countries and aimed at mapping out a plan for combatting climate change from 2012 to 2020.     Financial support is a key issue at the talks.     Reports has quoted Todd Stern, U.S. special envoy for climate change, as saying that the United States would contribute to a fund aimed at helping developing nations deal with climate change, but China would not be a recipient of financial aid as it had a booming economy and large foreign exchange reserves.     "We hope that developed countries can positively respond to reasonable requests and suggestions from developing countries, demonstrate political sincerity and fulfil their obligations rather than shift and shirk responsibility," said Jiang.     "We hope the relevant parties make efforts to make the Copenhagen conference achieve results acceptable to all sides," Jiang said.

PARIS, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The preparation for the 2010 Shanghai Expo has proceeded into exhibits arrangements and service operation as site constructions are mostly completed, China's representatives of Executive Committee of the Shanghai Expo announced here Tuesday in its last report of progress in the 146thGeneral Assembly of the Bureau of International Exhibition (BIE).     With less than six months ahead of the 2010 Shanghai Expo, all preparation on construction and operation are underway smoothly as scheduled, said Yang Xiong, the deputy director of the executive committee for Shanghai Expo and vice mayor of Shanghai.     Transportation infrastructures inside and outside the Expo site will basically finished by the year end and put into use by the end of next March. Supporting public utilities such as medical treatment, drinking water and communication are also steadily in progress, the report said.     Five permanent structures, namely China Pavilion, Performance Center, Expo Center Theme Pavilion and Expo Boulevard will be completed by the year ends. Twenty-six out of the 42 self-built pavilions of foreign participants have completed their structure and 37 out of 42 rented pavilions were accomplished. All the 11 joint pavilions have been completed by now.     By Dec. 1, over 3,400 rooms in apartments in the Expo Village and service apartments in the surrounding areas will be put into service, and the number will reach 6,700 at the end of the year and 7,100 by the end of next March, the report said.     "As major parts of the construction work has finished, we have shifted our focus to operation, such as service, exhibits arrangement and further design and organization of events and forums," Yang told Xinhua.     During the grand cultural events, about 20,000 sessions of various performances will be staged.
