The housing market has been strong in 2020, but as we head into 2021, it seems the market will continue to buck all home buying and selling trends.“It used to be true the home buying season was spring or summer when kids are out of school,” says Daryl Fairweather, chief economist for Redfin. “The pandemic has changed all that.”It's her job to study the market, follow migration patterns, and make sure both agents and customers are informed.“I predict that the early winter -- January, February -- is going to be an unusually busy home buying and selling season,” Fairweather says.Fairweather said people can move anytime and they're eager to get it over with when they've made the decision to relocate.“People want to move to places that really fit their preferences whether it's a beach town or a lake town or to be closer to their family, people are moving to places that they really want to live in, not just places that are close to the office,” Fairweather said.Jordan Thomas bought a home while the market has been hot.“It's a very quick process, buying was extremely competitive,” Thomas said.Thomas said she was among the many who decided the time to buy is now.“Because the interest rates were so great, I was able to get a really great deal on a larger home for myself,” Thomas said.She was the first to put in an offer on her Houston-area home. Six more offers followed that same day.“Because I was the first to put in the offer and I was aggressive with what I put forth, the first time around was the reason why I ended up getting the home,” Thomas said.And true to Fairweather's prediction about what people want in a home, Thomas was ready to renovate. The Louisville Metro police department has fired one of the police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor. A termination letter for Officer Brett Hankison released by the city’s police department today said Hankinson violated procedures by showing “extreme indifference to the value of human life." The letter also said Hankinson violated the rule against using deadly force. Taylor, who was Black, was shot eight times by officers who burst into her Louisville home using a no-knock warrant during a March 13 narcotics investigation. Two other officers remain on administrative reassignment while the shooting is investigated.Taylor, who was employed as an EMT, was inside of her home when police conducted a “no-knock raid” on her home. Thinking the police officers were intruders, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, allegedly shot at police.Louisville Metro Police officers returned fire, striking and killing Taylor.Walker was originally arrested for firing at police, but later was released. 1024
The police officer who handcuffed and arrested a nurse for refusing to go against the hospital's policy on drawing blood said through an attorney that he would like to personally apologize for the incident, KUTV reported. Detective Jeff Payne faced criticism for the way he handled an incident in July where he requested hospital employees to draw blood from an unconscious driver who had just been in an accident without that driver's permission or a warrant. The hospital, citing legal precedent, has a policy of not drawing blood without permission or a court-ordered warrant. When nurse Alex Wubbels refused to draw blood, she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser. "Jeff would love the chance to sit down and apologize for what happened here," attorney Greg Skordas told KUTV. "If he could do this over he would do it over differently."Payne, along with another officer, were placed on administrative leave by the Salt Lake City Police Department after video of the incident went viral. The department has also since updated it policy regarding blood draws."I think he would love the chance to talk to people about what happened and why it happened and how he would do it differently," Skordas told KUTV. 1262
