A record number of women are projected to win seats in the House in a massive night for female candidates across the political spectrum.As of Thursday morning, CNN projected at least 100 women would win House races, with 35 women newly elected to the House and 65 female incumbents. That bests the previous record of 85 representatives, according to the Congressional Research Service. There are still two outstanding races that have two women competing against each other, which means that at least 102 women will be serving in the House next year.On the Senate side, CNN projected by Thursday morning that 12 women would win Senate seats, with two newly elected women joining 10 female incumbents. 707

A Texas jail guard suffered a heart attack two years ago, and if not for a group of inmates, he could have lost his life, WFAA-TV reported.Gary Grimm of Weatherford, Texas is thankful for those inmates who gave the now 52-year-old retired jail guard a second-chance at life."Instead of overtaking me and taking my gun, and killing me or taking a hostage and escaping, they looked at me as a human being," Grimm told WFAA. The inmates reportedly had to knock down a locked gate to get to Grimm after they realized he was having a medical emergency. The group of eight inmates were able to get the attention of others in the jail, who were able to help Grimm seek medical attention. Grimm never got the opportunity to personally thank the inmates as they were transferred to other institutions."I get emotional. If they wished harm for me, all they had to do was sit there and do nothing," Grimm told WFAA. Grimm said he treated inmates the way he would want to be treated. Perhaps, that is why they came to his aid when he needed it."I don't care if they're a drug user, hot check writer, or child molester. They're still a human being. I don't have to like what they did, but it's not my position to be the judge and jury," Grimm told the station. 1275

A teacher at a Virginia high school was fired this week for allegedly refusing to stop calling a transgender male student a girl, ABC News reported. The teacher, Peter Vlaming, was reportedly fired for violating the school's nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policies. Vlaming was a French teacher at West Point High School in West Point, Va. "After thoughtful deliberation, the School Board voted to support the superintendent’s recommendation," the school's board wrote in a statement. "The School Board has adopted policies and tonight we upheld these policies."Vlaming claimed that his religion prevented him from identifying the boy by his preferred pronoun. Vlaming did agree to use the student's male name. A petition, which has more than 2,000 signatures, was launched in support of Vlaming. Vlaming said in the petition, "I won't use male pronouns with a female student that now identifies as a male though I did agree to use the new masculine name but avoid female pronouns. Administration is requiring that I use masculine pronouns in any and every context at school. I was informed that any further instances of using female pronouns would be grounds for termination." On Friday, students held a walkout and protest at the school in response to Vlaming's firing, WWBT-TV reported. “The school board is trying to force the teacher to conform to their ideologies with the threat of removal from the school,” Forrest Rohde, a junior who organized the walkout, told WWBT. James Millner, the president of Virginia Pride, agreed with the board's decision. "He violated school policy, despite multiple warnings from administrators. We do need statewide policy guidance that protects lgbtq students and prevents situations like this from happening again," he wrote.  1867

A vintage plane crashed in the Swiss Alps on Saturday, killing all 20 people on board, police said.The mid-century plane, a Junkers JU-52, crashed in the Piz Segnas mountain range, near the Austrian border.All 17 passengers and three crew members died in the crash, which happened around 5 p.m. local time. A St. Louis couple who waved guns at peaceful protesters near their property earlier this year will speak in support of President Donald Trump next week at the Republican National Convention, The Washington Post, NPR and CNN report.The couple will reportedly deliver remarks remotely, as in-person portions of the convention have been canceled.Mark and Patricia McCloskey gained national attention in late June as Black Lives Matter protesters marched toward the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. Krewson and the McCloskeys live in a private, gated community.Though the protesters were peaceful and staying away from the McCloskey's mansion, the couple emerged from their homes with firearms and ordered protesters to leave.Various social media videos show Patricia McCloskey pointing a small handgun at protesters. Mark McCloskey carried a long gun.In July, the couple was charged with unlawful use of a weapon for waving the guns in a "threatening" manner. Both have maintained their innocence, saying they were afraid for their lives and were simply protecting themselves.The White House has previously expressed support for the couple. Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in July that the charges against the McCloskeys were "absurd." Missouri Gov.
