SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students have been released from school following reports of shots fired in the area around Kearny Senior High School Wednesday afternoon. According to San Diego Police, officers were alerted to the reports around 2:20 p.m. So far, no one has been taken into custody and police are still searching for a scene. Mesa College Drive is also closed from Ashford to Armory while police search the area. Kearny Senior High School is located on the 1900 block of Komet Way near San Diego Mesa College. 523

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego is planning on expand its designated scooter parking zones to Ocean Beach. The Mayor’s staff recently sent a list and map of 106 prospective locations to the Ocean Beach planning board. The scooter corrals are similar to the on-street parking the city has already installed downtown. The ‘Micro Mobility Parking Corrals’ - as the city calls them - are installed at red curb spaces that do not block traffic, fire hydrants or impede visibility. The Mayor’s office says it is working with community groups to find suitable locations in OB and they plan to have feedback by June 10th. 630

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The first-ever professional sports event to be held on an active military base will be held in San Diego this February.As a special thank you to the military, the San Diego Seals pro lacrosse team will play a regular season game on the flight line of MCAS Miramar on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, against the Vancouver Warriors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Surveillance video captures in "disturbing" peeper outside a home in Old Town, as a teenage girl slept inside.Steve rents a home along Jefferson Street. Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, he was close by with some friends when he got an alert on his phone."Just a feeling of alarm," said Steve.A stunned Steve saw video of a man outside his home, just staring. The cameras capture an older, balding man on the side of the home. His left hand is in his pants, as he peers into the windows."Behavior was really creepy," said Steve.Steve called police and raced home. His 15-year-old daughter was inside, asleep on the couch. In the video, the man keeps looking inside, though all the blinds are closed. His hand is still where it is."My immediate concern is that the guy is going to break a window or climb in the house," said Steve.After peering in the windows, he goes around the back and out of camera range. When he reappears, he decides to smoke before taking yet another look."He was so comfortable in my space looking in my windows and doing what he may have been doing," said Steve.Not long after, police arrive and take him into custody. The video shows he had been outside the home for some 30 minutes. Police say there was not enough evidence a crime had been committed and the man was released after an hour. Steve is still hoping to get the word out on the stranger and the odd behavior he fears could escalate."Probably has done it before and will do it again. Next time, he may go inside the house and decide to do something more than looking in a window," said Steve.Though charges haven't been filed, anyone with information on the case is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000. 1719

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The military poured .1 billion into San Diego's economy, according to the Military Economic Impact Study released Thursday.The figure higher than expected, according to Executive Director of SDMAC Mark Balmert, due to more ships stopping in San Diego and more sailors and Marines coming to the region.The author of the report, Dr. Lynn Reaser, said these numbers back the idea the military is a mega-industry. She noted San Diego is home to one in every six of the nation's sailors.The study's results were announced across the bay from Naval Air Station North Island, at the Harbor Drive Annex. Mayor Kevin Faulconer was among the speakers and drove home the message: Don't take our military for granted."Those dollars are really going to help every portion of our city," Faulconer said.The focus of this year's study surrounded NAVWAR, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command. The Navy communications headquarters used to be known as SPAWAR. "The new plan is to develop those 70 acres into a technology hub with the NAVWAR headquarters at its center and that will change the Midway District. It will be wonderful for San Diego and it's wonderful for the Navy," Balmert said. "What that's going to mean for our national security for our entire country but also to connect the airport to the trolley," Faulconer added. NAVWAR produced billion in gross regional product and houses 26,000 jobs, according to Balmert, who described the jobs as, "among the better jobs in our community they're high tech jobs, high paying jobs."The study states more than four-fifths of the workforce hold at least a four-year college degree. About two-fifths hold a Master's or Doctorate degree.Reaser said those jobs are secure and will grow, "two-thirds of NAVWAR's employees work in cyber security which is a major emerging cluster in the overall county."Balmert said the future looks brights for San Diego's military growth. He said in the next five years we will double the amount of submarines at Point Loma and add another aircraft carrier to our home port. San Diego has two carriers that home port here, and one is currently ported. The USS Abraham Lincoln is coming back and will dock by the end of the year. 2233
