President Donald Trump will not attend Saturday's funeral service for former first lady Barbara Bush, the White House said in a statement Thursday, citing the desire to "avoid disruptions" and out of respect for her family and friends."First Lady Melania Trump will attend the memorial service for Barbara Bush this Saturday on behalf of the First Family. To avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family and friends attending the service, President Trump will not attend," the White House said in a statement.President Trump offered his condolences to the Bush family Wednesday as he began remarks at a joint news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.Barbara Bush, Trump said, was a "wonderful, wonderful person" and "a titan in American life.""Her strength and toughness really embodied the spirit of our country," Trump said at Mar-a-Lago. "She was a woman of proud patriotism and profound faith."Security will already be heightened at the funeral at St. Martin's Church in Houston -- Bush's husband, former President George H. W. Bush, and her son former President George W. Bush will be in attendance, as well as former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton will also attend.Former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter will not attend, as Jimmy Carter will be on a trip overseas and Rosalynn Carter is recovering from recent intestinal surgery, a spokesperson for the Carter Center said in a statement Thursday.Bush, the matriarch of a Republican political dynasty and a first lady who elevated the cause of literacy, died Tuesday. She was 92. 1681

Remote learning is a new challenge for many students who were previously used to roughly eight hours of face-to-face learning in a classroom each day. Some students are struggling to learn in this new environment, and while some parents can afford a tutor to bridge any learning gap, most families simply cannot. However, there are some new affordable and even free live tutoring options for those families.“We developed out two new products to aid our customers,” said Steven Cox, the CEO and Founder of TakeLessons.com.Take Lessons originally offered 1-on-1 tutoring online, but since the pandemic started it has launched two more affordable, live group tutoring programs. The first option is a month and offers unlimited live-tutoring sessions. The only catch is instead of the lessons being 1-on-1, each lesson is with a group of five to 20 students at a time.“It’s really a tremendous benefit for people who still need to get great education with quality teachers but simply it is out of their range to do private lessons,” said Cox.For some families, though, even a month is more than they can afford, so Take Lessons now has a free option. This option allows students to watch a live lesson, but instead of video chatting with a tutor, they have to message them. The groups of students in these live sessions are also much larger.“It is our way of giving back that I believe right now and where we are as a country is needed more than anything else,” added Cox.Take Lessons is not the only organization offering affordable and free help.“There are a lot of free resources that are available,” said Francesco Lecciso, co-founder of Brainfuse.Brainfuse has partnered with hundreds of public libraries around the country to provide free online live tutoring. Brainfuse provides the platform and the libraries provide the free, live tutors available to students in almost every state. To access the free resource, Brainfuse recommends contacting your local library. It has the portal system and user information to gain free access.Between Brainfuse, Take Lesson, and other services out there, online learning can be a more equitable experience and one that helps all students thrive. “One of the advantages is there are so many options, so you can observe your child and see what works best,” said Lecciso. "Some kids work best just going through self-paced lessons and other kids need human mediation, so seek that out through free resources.” 2462

President-elect Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will receive an initial dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine in their home state of Delaware on Monday according to Reuters and PBS.Vice president-elect Kamala Harris will also receive the vaccine later this month, the outlets report.Biden said earlier this week that he would receive the vaccine "sooner rather than later," adding that he didn't want to "get ahead of the line, but I want to make sure we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take."It's not yet clear whether Biden would receive his vaccination in a live TV broadcast, as Vice President Mike Pence did on Friday morning.Three other former presidents — Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — have all independently agreed to be vaccinated in a public setting to instill confidence in the vaccine's safety to the public. This story is breaking and will be updated. 915

Recovering the wreckage of a helicopter that crashed, killing a newlywed couple and their pilot Saturday, "is going to be difficult" because of the rough Texas terrain, authorities said. Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman Byler, who married Saturday evening at the Byler family ranch in Uvalde, had just exchanged vows and were en route to their honeymoon about 100 miles east in San Antonio when their helicopter crashed into a mountain, game warden Rachel Kellner of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said. They were seniors at Sam Houston State University. Also killed was the pilot, Gerald Douglas Lawrence, the groom's grandfather, William Byler, told CNN affiliate KTRK. 683
