Health officials say the U.S. faces an uphill battle in convincing some Americans to take a potential COVID-19 vaccine. While polling shows Americans have been more open to a vaccine in recent months, there is still skepticism in vaccines among non-whites across the country.Experts say that Black people, in particular, remain skeptical of vaccines due to past failings of the U.S. healthcare system, in particular, the Tuskegee syphilis study. But the National Medical Association — a nonprofit representing the interests of Black doctors across the country — is trying to fight that skepticism ahead of the potential authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine."We're already suffering more than other community, and we would hate to see that suffering gap widen because members of our community did not affect to receive a vaccine that could have prevented kidney disease, prevented lung damage from COVID-19," Dr. Leon McDougle, the president of the National Medical Association said.The National Medical Association's task force has been doing its own independent vetting of potential COVID-19 vaccines, and McDougle added they are doing so to ensure that politicians are not influencing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."We are trusted messengers for health in the Black community," McDougle said. "That's where we live. That's where we work, and we already have those established relationships."The group has already had two meetings with Pfizer — the company, who on Wednesday, said it is days away from filing for Emergency Use Authorization for its vaccine candidate — and has a third meeting planned.The Association has also met with Moderna and AstraZeneca about their vaccine trials.McDougle added that since the group has been having meetings with vaccine makers for a while, he's hopeful the Association will agree with the FDA's decisions.McDougle says the National Medical Association has already been collaborating with clergy and other professional organizations that are looking to them for a direction on the vaccine. 2045

It also specifies that individuals without the condition can serve but only if they do so according to the sex they were assigned at birth.District courts across the country have so far blocked the policy from going into effect. Have you been thinking about asking your boss for a raise?  Now could be the time to ask, thanks to really low unemployment nationwide.Employers across the country are struggling to fill open positions, because of the low employment rate. "You have more bargaining power right now, and that's whether you are currently employed or whether you are looking for a new opportunity," says Andrew Murtagh, who works at the top staffing firm Robert Half.Before you go and ask for more money, Murtagh says you need to ask yourself a question first.  "You got to understand what you are worth,” he says. “Just because it is a hot market right now doesn't give you a hall pass to go around and start dictating what you want, because that may hurt you."  If you're not wanting to push the limits and ask for a raise, Murtagh says you can still ask for other perks.   "You can be very, very creative and the employer doesn't have to invest huge amounts of money to get a return," he says.  Maybe those perks include a parking spot right in front, a free meal once a week, or maybe flexible work hours so you don't have to sit in rush hour traffic.   "What I always encourage is to have active communication in the work place,” Murtagh suggests. “So, I think if you have a good relationship with your boss, then nothing should come as a surprise.” Just remember, to know your worth. 1427

Hawaii will remain effectively closed to tourists until at least October 1.The state currently has a strict 14-day quarantine for anyone coming to the islands, tourists and returning residents alike. The quarantine stopped tourism as it states anyone arriving must remain at a home or hotel for 14 days (not a vacation rental), and cannot visit other islands or tourist locations, or rent a car.This quarantine plan started in March and was supposed to be relaxed September 1 to allow visitors to bypass the quarantine if they presented a negative COVID-19 test. However, Hawaii Gov. David Ige announced this week the quarantine plan will remain as it is at least until September 30."We will continue to monitor the conditions here in Hawaii as well as key markets on the mainland to determine the appropriate start date for the pre-travel (COVID-19) testing program," he said.As of Tuesday, Hawaii had a total of 5,349 reported COVID-19 cases and 41 deaths from the disease. 983
