BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has held in-depth talks with top economists and entrepreneurs to discuss the current economic situation and the country's macro controls amid government efforts to steer the economy out of trouble against a background of global turmoil.     The premier sat down with specialists in a wide range of fields from fiscal policy, finance and the corporate world, to agriculture, real estate and external economy, as well as company heads from big sectors such as petrochemical, telecommunications, auto, steel, nonferrous metal, machinery manufacturing, logistics and real estate, at the Zhongnanhai leadership compound in downtown Beijing on Nov. 20 and again on Nov. 25. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping (2nd L) addressed a meeting at which a group of heads of agencies of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the central government discussed how to implement the Scientific Outlook on Development, in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 12, 2008    BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday urged Communist Party of China (CPC) cadres to combine the spirit of "scientific development" with the nation's endeavors to deal with current economic problems.     Xi addressed a meeting in Beijing, at which a group of heads of agencies of the CPC Central Committee and the central government discussed how to implement the Scientific Outlook on Development.     Xi said the ongoing campaign to educate Party cadres on the Scientific Outlook on Development should focus on how to maintain a steady economic growth, despite global economic woes, through more scientific and efficient work.     He said this was desirable because the ultimate goal of the campaign was that China achieve sustainable, broad-based development under the leadership of the CPC.     The Scientific Outlook on Development represents important guiding principles for China's economic and social development. It was initiated by the CPC in 2003 and written into the CPC's constitution during the 17th National Congress of the Party in 2007.     The principles emphasize a people-first approach, while requiring comprehensive and sustainable development with a dual emphasis on speed and quality.     In September, the CPC launched an 18-month educational campaign, asking all Party cadres and officials to study the principles while applying them in their own work.     Xi Jinping said the annual Central Economic Work Conference, which concluded on Wednesday, had made a full plan on maintaining stable and healthy growth next year through domestic demand expansion and economic restructuring.     He said central government organs, often as key policy makers, should check whether shortcomings in their own work had hindered the implementation of the key policies.     "At present the top task for us is to identify and solve those shortcomings that could have negative impacts on economic growth, vital interest of the people and social stability," he said.

ASTANA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Wednesday evening, starting a three-day official visit to Kazakhstan at the invitation of Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov.     Wen is scheduled to attend the 7th prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). TAIPEI, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- The mainland-donated panda pair is scheduled to meet the Taiwan public on Jan. 26, the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Taipei city government announced on Thursday.     Taipei mayor Hau Lung-bin will visit the panda pair a few days earlier, on Jan. 24, with 500 orphans and children from poor families.     "If all the quarantine measures for the panda pair and other procedures for their moving into the zoo go well as scheduled, the 500 children invited by the city government will be the first visitors on Jan. 24," Hau said.     The Taipei city zoo said an opening ceremony for the panda enclosure would also be held on Jan. 24. The area would be open to the public on the morning of Jan. 26.     It's estimated an average of 22,000 panda visitors per day will come to the enclosure once it's opened, according to the zoo. To accommodate the crowds, the zoo will extend business hours until 18:00 p.m. during the Spring Festival holidays.     The city government said earlier in a statement that the pandas were expected to attract about 6 million visitors to the zoo annually, double the current number.     The pair of 4-year-old giant pandas named "Tuan Tuan" and "Yuan Yuan" (when linked, their names mean "reunion" in Chinese), have now become "sweethearts" on the island. Cartoon images of the bears are displayed at bus stations and the airport's entrance.     The mainland announced in May 2005 it would donate two giant pandas to Taiwan. Their departure had been delayed for more than three years. Improved cross-Straits ties made their journey to Taiwan possible.

KUNMING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Yunnan section of the Sino-Vietnam land boundary demarcation project has ended with 665 boundary tablets erected, an official with the foreign affairs office of southwest China's Yunnan Province said here on Saturday.     During the past eight years, six Chinese teams cooperated with their Vietnamese counterparts and demarcated the borders of Jiangcheng, Jinping, Hekou, Maguan, Malipo and Funing.     All the land border demarcation work in the Yunnan area was completed on Dec. 20, in accordance with the "Vietnam-China Land Border Treaty."     Large boundary tablets were established on Hekou's roads, rail terminal and harbor along the Yunnan section of the border.     The completion of the task represents a major step in Sino-Vietnamese relations.     China and Vietnam exchanged views on Wednesday on solving the remaining issues connected to border demarcation and erecting border markers, reached an agreement and issued a joint statement.
