MIRAMAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Two young boys died Friday night after their mother crashed into a semi-trailer on the side of the I-15 freeway. Israel and Adrian Lemus were heading home with their mother when she swerved into the shoulder near Miramar Road and collided with the back of the trailer. The mother was taken to the hospital with broken bones and a brain bleed. Family says she is stable but has been in and out of consciousness. The family had been heading back from Menifee where they were celebrating Israel’s birthday. He was going to turn 11 on Saturday. “They were very happy in the last moments,” said Lidia Lemus, their cousin, who was at the party. “It’s very surreal right now,” she said. “They had their whole lives ahead of them.” The family says the mother was not under the influence when she left the party. MYAKKA CITY, Fla. — Twenty-four hours after Mother's Day, a picture Crystal Ingramm took is still hard to digest."I was sad more than anything else," Ingramm said.The mom was driving with her family to a celebratory breakfast. Suddenly, her husband pulled over when he spotted something strange near the forest preserve off Wachula and Taylor roads in Myakka City, Florida."He said, 'I think I saw an alligator on the side of the road,'" Ingramm said. "We thought it was caught in a barbed wire fence. When we got close we realized there were two of them and they were already dead, and their tails had been cut off."Growing up in the small Myakka City community and used to seeing alligators, Ingramm said she immediately knew this was no accident."This was done for only one possible purpose, and they were discarded here," Ingramm said.That's why she said she took the picture and posted it to a community page to let others know about the possible crime. The photo was shared, prompting people like Julie Morris to drive by the preserve."We need to find out who's doing it and make sure that this does not continue to happen," Morris said.That's also why Ingramm said she shared the photo with FWC, the state agency that oversees wildlife concerns."I know alligators are hunted, but there is a lawful and responsible way to do that. You don't obviously just cut their tails and leave all their body parts. This was not an act of hunting, this was something else," Ingramm said.FWC allows alligator hunting in a very limited capacity.The season doesn't start until August. These kids and their parents are having to make the effort to find a routine that works.Mother Kim Alvidrez says she has her twin 6-year-olds treat school from home the same way they would if they were heading to class. That includes having breakfast and breaks at the same time.She sees frustration in her kids for not having one-on-one teacher help and not being around other students.“It’s hard, as a mom to watch your kids. They want it. They want to be there, and they want to be involved but they can’t fully participate,” said Alvidrez. “It’s just their presence that’s counted. And that’s their time. That’s my biggest concern. “Alvidrez says her kids are kept silent during Zoom lessons and are encouraged to not ask questions. If questions are asked, she says it’s limited to one or two.Child psychologists say parents need to work through those struggles and remain positive to help create a better learning environment.“The number one way kids learn is by watching what their parents do,” said Dr. Jessica Hawks, a child psychologist at Children's Hospital Colorado. “So, if a parent can present an optimistic and positive about the fact that their child's in online schooling, the child's more likely to embrace that philosophy and mentality and can really be helpful overall to the engagement.”Hawks says parents also need positive routines for kids, which include proper eating and sleep habits, along with a designated area for kids to do their online work.As for Alvidrez, she says one positive is her twins are in the same class. 1665
