HAWTHORNE (CNS) - Southern California-based SpaceX will look to achieve another milestone late Friday evening when it attempts to launch the first test flight of its sleek capsule designed to carry astronauts to the International Space Station. The Crew Dragon, a stepped-up version of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft that is used to carry cargo to the Space Station, is scheduled for to launch at 11:49 p.m. California time Friday from Cape Canaveral in Florida, propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket. The Crew Dragon mission will be unmanned, testing the new ship's capabilities and ability to self-dock at the Space Station.PHOTO GALLERY: SPACEX ROCKET LAUNCH LIGHTS UP EVENING SKYCargo-carrying Dragon capsules are usually captured by the Space Station's robotic arms and brought into the docking bay. The Crew Dragon is designed to dock and un-dock on its own.The Crew Dragon being launched Friday night will be carrying a sensor- laden mannequin, outfitted in a SpaceX spacesuit, along with about 400 pounds of supplies and equipment. The spaceship is expected to arrive at the International Space Station at about 3 a.m. California time on Sunday. The ship will remain docked at the station until about 11:30 p.m. Pacific time March 7, when it begins its journey back to Earth. It is expected to splash down in the Atlantic Ocean -- slowed by four parachutes -- about six hours later.VIDEO REPORT: No, it was not a UFO. SpaceX launches rocket into space off California coastAssuming the test flight goes well, SpaceX is scheduled to actually launch astronauts into space for a short demonstration flight this summer, possibly in July. NASA has already chosen astronauts Robert Behnken and Doug Hurley for the historic mission. Assuming no issues with that flight, two other astronauts -- Victor Glover and Mike Hopkins -- will later become the first humans carried by a Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. 1929

GENEVA, Ohio — As the service industry struggles due to the COVID-19 pandemic, business owners and employees face a new stressor: enforcing mask mandates and seating requirements at bars and restaurants. It’s no secret that adults don’t enjoy being told what to do, especially if they feel enforcement infringes on their personal space or choices. Behavioral therapists say there is a complex science that explains why some adults have reverted to infantile behavior during the pandemic. In recent weeks, there have been several incidents across in the country about high-profile disputes over masks — some of which have grown violent. The owner of a northeast Ohio winery said such a dispute led to property damage over the weekend.“We did have one incident where a customer punched a hole in the drywall in the men’s room at 7 p.m. on Saturday night,” said Gene Sigel, the owner of South River Vineyard.Sigel said in 20 years, the winery has never had any sort of property damage, but new state-mandated restrictions when visiting the vineyard appear to have some customers on edge.“We’re used to enforcing guidelines from the governor,” Sigel said. “But at the same time, asking people to sit down or put on a mask is a whole new range of imposition on people’s personal space.”While Sigel said the hole in the wall is a fairly inexpensive fix, his employees feel the behavior speaks to the way service industry workers are being treated by customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.“It certainly played into the tension,” Sigel said. “For whatever reason, somebody felt that the only place that there wouldn’t be a surveillance camera was in the restroom and that was a good place to leave a comment on their feelings as to the requirements here.”Behavioral therapists at the Cleveland Clinic report there’s scientific data to back up why adults behave this way in stressful situations. “Rebel psychological reactance” refers to the brain’s reaction to a threat to freedom or personal choices.Therapists believe those frustrations sometimes cause people to abandon common sense and behave erratically, even when safety is concerned.Sigel said he wants to remind customers to be patient with staff when visiting the vineyard and other businesses and added that employees are all doing the best they can to provide an enjoyable experience despite the new restrictions.“None of us have a lot of options of places to go. We can’t jump on a plane and fly somewhere,” Sigel said. “We can’t go across the country necessarily in our vehicle, so there’s a greater infrastructure demand at our local events.”This story was originally published by Emily Hamilton on WEWS in Cleveland. 2680

FROSTPROOF, Fla. — The triple murder of three close friends is under investigation in Florida. The Polk County Sheriff's Office says around 10:06 p.m. on Friday, one victim, 27-year-old Rollins, called his dad for help. Officials say his dad knew Brandon had gone fishing with two of his friends, 30-year-old Keven Springfield and 23-year-old Damion Tillman, who were also victims. All were from Frostproof.Brandon's dad drove to the unincorporated area of Frostproof and when he arrived, he found his son barely alive, officials say. The other two friends were found dead.Brandon's dad drove to a close-by gas station to call 911.When first responders arrived, all three victims were found dead. Officials said they appeared to have been beaten and shot."This is a horrific scene. I've been to a lot of murder scenes in my life and this ranks among the worst I've been to," said Sheriff Grady Judd.According to families, the three men were best friends and knew each other for years. They said the three men were fishing on land, not in a boat."We are seeking leads. We need help so we can solve this crime sooner rather than later because there are one or more, we suspected more, murderers, that killed three people in a quiet community," said Sheriff Judd. The sheriff's office is asking for the public's help on any information on the incident. If anyone has any information, contact PCSO at 863-298-6200.This story was originally published by Lisette Lopez at WFTS. 1477

Hertz has been in business for over 100 years. In May, the car-rental company filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 in bankruptcy court in Delaware. On Monday, Hertz announced in a press release that revenues were down 70% as it reported its second-quarter financial results."In the second quarter, like so many companies whose revenues have sharply declined due to the pandemic's significant impact on global travel, we had to make difficult but necessary decisions to strengthen and position the company for growth for many years to come," said Paul Stone, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hertz Global in the news release. "The toughest decisions have been those that impact the livelihood of our dedicated workforce and our voluntarily reorganizing under Chapter 11 in North America. We are moving through our reorganization process and remain focused on emerging an even stronger global rental car leader better positioned to serve our customers around the world."The parent company, Hertz Global Holdings, recorded revenue of 2 million, but with a net loss of 7 million. And with air travel impacted by COVID-19, the company said airport car rentals were down 82%.In the news release, the company said they saw a strong rebound in its used-car market in May and June, and they were able to "sell cars aggressively as we right-size the fleet to align with market realities.""We continue to make disciplined adjustments to our cost structure based on revenue fluctuations and expect to generate about .5 billion in annualized savings," said Stone in the release. "Our priority is fleet management. The continued strong used-car market allows us to continue to sell cars aggressively as we right-size the fleet to align with market realities. Across the business, our team is laser-focused on capturing revenue, driving efficiency, and advancing critical technology. In the U.S., we continue to capitalize on rental opportunities off-airport, while ensuring customer service levels remain best-in-class. Internationally, our fleet is trending toward demand levels. And our Donlen leasing business remains stable. Finally, continuing to keep our teams and our customers safe in this unpredictable environment is of utmost importance to everyone at Hertz." 2282
