PARADISE, Calif. Another shows him jumping on a burned-out trampoline with the caption: "Trampolines are stupid ... it used to be called a Jumpoline until your mom got on it."RELATED: Dog survives Camp Fire; Found guarding charred Paradise property when owner returnsFreestone and two other workers involved in the incidents last month have been fired from Bigge Crane and Rigging. PINE VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A suspected human smuggler was sentenced to 30 months in prison for barreling through a Border Patrol checkpoint, narrowly missing vehicles and severely injuring a border agent.Jorge Garcia-Osornio, 28, of Michoacán, Mexico, was charged with transporting certain aliens and aiding and abetting from the Nov. 14, 2017 incident.Border officials said Garcia was illegally in the U.S. when he approached a Pine Valley border checkpoint with two illegal immigrants hidden in the floor of his vehicle. As he neared the line of cars waiting, Garcia made an illegal U-turn and began driving in the opposite direction on the freeway, officials said.RELATED: Border Patrol tests body cameras in East San Diego CountyAgents began to pursue Garcia before he made another U-turn and headed back toward the checkpoint at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.As he reached the checkpoint, officials said Garcia narrowly missed two vehicles and a border agent, and blasted through a metal sign, sending debris in all directions.“In committing his criminal act, Garcia not only placed the lives of those he smuggled in grave danger, but seriously injured a Border Patrol agent in the process,” Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott.RELATED: Border Patrol agent arrested in North San Diego County on drug, weapons chargesThat debris severely injured a nearby agent, who likened the blow to being "hit with a baseball bat." The agent was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and has yet to return to duty.Garcia continued on for another three and a half miles at high speeds before exited a freeway and crashing into a hillside. One of the undocumented immigrants hiding in the vehicle told agents he "feared for his life."Garcia was arrested nearby after ditching his crashed vehicle. As part of his plea deal, he admitted to charges of driving the wrong way, using a dangerous weapon, and seriously injuring a border agent, among other charges.RELATED: Mother arrested by border agents in viral video released, reunited with familyThe man was expecting to earn between ,400 to ,000 for transporting each undocumented immigrant.“This defendant had no regard for the safety of his passengers, other drivers on the freeway or agents at the checkpoint,” U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman said in a release. “It’s a miracle no one died in this incident. Smugglers operate in a world where immigrants are just dollar signs, not people. 2527

PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) — Officials in Nevada are identifying a 55-year-old man found dead under a vehicle they think may have collapsed on him due to earthquakes last week in nearby Southern California.Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly (WER'-lee) said Thursday that investigators might never know for sure what caused Troy Ray to become pinned beneath his Jeep outside his trailer home in rural Pahrump.Sgt. Adam Tippetts says in an internet post that Ray was last seen alive at a nearby gas station July 3.A day later, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck near Ridgecrest, California, followed by a larger 7.1 temblor on July 5.Ridgecrest is about 95 miles (153 kilometers) west of Pahrump.Tippetts says Ray's death was ruled an accident resulting from asphyxia and blunt trauma. 780

PARADISE HILLS (CNS) - A 28-year-old man and his 27-year-old passenger were injured today after the 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle they were riding crashed into a stationary vehicle in the Paradise Hills neighborhood of San Diego. The collision happened at 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of Potomac Street, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.``The driver lost control of his motorcycle and slid into a parked vehicle,'' Heims said. ``The driver sustained broken knees along with several other injuries.''The passenger suffered a dislocated right hip. Both were transported to a local hospital.A San Diego Police Traffic Division investigation determined the crash occurred, at least in part, because of substance intoxication. 774

PARK COUNTY, Colo. — A California church leader was identified as a man found dead off Guanella Pass, Colorado, in 1974, officials announced on Tuesday.Anthony John Armbrust, who led a metaphysical church and was also an aeronautical engineer, was 45 when he and his wife went missing, according to David Kintz, the Park County coroner.Kintz said Armbrust's death was likely a suicide. His remains were first discovered in February 1974, but the case went cold. After identifying Armbrust through forensic genetic genealogy, investigators learned that Armbrust had been suffering from a terminal illness and that he and his wife, Renee, had moved from the San Diego, Calif., area to Golden, Colorado, near Denver.Armbrust then sent his church members a letter, asking them to come collect he and his wife's belongings from their Golden apartment. The couple was not seen again.Renee Armbrust's remains have not been found.Kintz said Anthony Armbrust died from multiple blunt force injuries, likely from an intentional jump or from a fall while climbing to make a jump.Armbrust's remains were found off Guanella Pass near Grant in an area with steep, treacherous terrain, Kintz said.Kintz's office began using forensic genealogy in the case in 2019 and contacted the DNA Doe Project, a group that works to identify unidentified people through DNA research. The investigators eventually traced DNA from Armbrust's remains to a relative, who helped them make a final identification. This story originally reported by Ryan Osborne on TheDenverChannel.com. 1556
