(KGTV) - A baby python caught on video being snatched from a reptile store in Escondido has been recovered.Late Wednesday afternoon, police told 10news a break in case led them to a home in Escondido, where a woman spotted in surveillance video admitted to taking the snake and turned it over. The theft took place at LLL Reptile last Friday afternoon."Just shocking because of the way she did it," said District Mangaer Joe Alvarez.Video shows her walking around the reptile shop for about ten minutes, before something catches her eye. On the video, she's seen staring down an employee before she appears to slide open the top of a tank and grab something. Another camera shows her walking right past the checkout counter. From the final camera angle, a yellow snake is seen squirming in her purse."Looks like the snake is making one last ditch effort to get away, you see her literally grab the snake and put it in her purse before she walks out," said Alvarez.That snake is a baby yellow-colored, green tree python, about ten inches long. "A lot of guys pour their heart and soul into caring for these animals, and someone comes and just rips it out. It hurts," said Alvarez.Alvarez was concerned about the snake's welfare, because it requires high heat and humidity. The conditions are more important because of his young age, about three months old. Those worries dissipated when police stopped by the shop on Wednesday, snake in hand. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — The victims of Friday's deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas were identified Saturday, as officials reopened the beach but cautioned that the area remained active. Speaking to the press, Encinitas Lifeguard Captain Larry Giles said the site around the collapse will remain taped off from the public as crews continue to assess the stability of the rock."From what we've learned this morning ... the area's still active. [Geotechnical consultant] is concerned about the areas to the side of the current failure failing," Giles said. "The failure is not affecting the structures up top. FALLBROOK (CNS) - Four residents were displaced Tuesday when a fire broke out in the garage and damaged part of their Fallbrook home, authorities said.The blaze was reported shortly before 6:30 a.m. at a home in the 2000 block of Pomegranate Lane, off South Stage Coach Lane north of Fallbrook High School, according to North County Fire Protection District spokesman John Choi.Firefighters from the Oceanside and Camp Pendleton fire departments responded to the scene along with Cal Fire San Diego personnel to help douse the blaze, which fully engulfed the garage and extended into portions of the home and the attic, Choi said.Crews knocked down the flames within 35 minutes, but the fire caused extensive damage to the garage and minimal damage to the home, he said.No injuries were reported.The American Red Cross was called to the scene to help the displaced residents -- four adults and one pet -- arrange for temporary lodging.The cause of the fire was under investigation. 989

On the surface, it’s hard to tell the residents inside are just starting their recovery from a low point in their lives.“I don’t know how I would have made it this far,” said Dough Yorba about his chance encounter with Interfaith.He lost his job around Christmas last year and soon after wound up in the hospital for extreme back pain. That’s when he got another diagnosis: cancer.“Oh, I freaked out. Both my parents died from cancer,” he said.Without any income, it got worse when he lost his apartment and transportation.“I literally had no place to go.”But as he was about to start chemotherapy, a social worker at the hospital mentioned the recuperative care facility in Escondido and he jumped at the opportunity.“Every aspect of life is covered here. Your meals are wonderful. The staff goes out of the way to help you with so many things,” he described.As helpful as the facility is, it only has 32 beds.“We project there is a need for another 50-100 beds,” said Greg Anglea, CEO of Interfaith Community Services. “Maybe even more than that.”California hospitals have seen an increase in homeless patients. According to Kaiser Health News, hospitals across the state discharged 28% more homeless patients in 2017 than they did in 2015.In January of this year, California implemented a new law aiming to reduce the practice of “homeless dumping.” It requires hospitals to provide homeless patients vaccinations, a meal and clothing before discharging them.
