SAN FRANCISCO, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Apple Inc. has sued Samsung Electronics Co. over patent infringement in a latest suit, U.S. media reported Monday.The suit, filed last Friday in U.S. District Court in Northern California, alleged that Samsung's smartphones, such as "Glaxy S 4G" and "Nexus S," and the Galaxy line of tablet computers violated Apple's patent and trademark, according to All Things Digital, a technology and startup company news site."It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging," the report quoted an Apple representative as saying.Intellectual property suits can be often seen among mobile computing rivals, including suits between Microsoft and Motorola, a suit by Oracle against Google, and Apple's patent dispute with Nokia and HTC.Although Samsung supplies chips for a number of Apple products, Apple CEO Steve Jobs once openly mocked Samsung and other tablet makers as "copycats" during the iPad2 launch. Last month, Apple is reportedly partnering with China's Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to make iPad chips.

BAIKONUR, Kazakhstan, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Russian manned spacecraft Soyuz TMA-21 has been transported to the launch pad and raised to a vertical position, ready to blast off on April 5, Xinhua correspondents reported Saturday from the site.The launch is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first flight into space in 1961 carried out by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.For hours, journalists and tourists from all over the world had braved a nasty weather and watched the train and trucks delivering the rocket to the pad.Service towers move towards the Soyuz TMA-21 spacecraft, named after the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, as it is set on its launch pad at Baikonur cosmodrome April 2, 2011. The International Space Station (ISS) crew of U.S. astronaut Ronald Garan and crew mates Russian cosmonauts Alexandr Samokutyaev and Andrey Borisenko is due to travel by Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS on April 5.The Soyuz TMA-21 rocket will deliver three crew members to the International Space Station (ISS) on April 5. In a six-month mission, these cosmonauts will carry out over 40 experiments.The Soyuz TMA modification is a replacement of the Soyuz TM as it was equipped with smaller and more efficient computers and improved displays. The Soyuz TMA-21 will also serve as the return vehicle of the ISS crew.

NEW YORK, May 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks expanded gains on Friday ahead of the long Memorial Day weekend as surging commodity prices overcame disappointing economic data.European Central Bank Governing Council member George Provopoulos said that Greece might deal with its debt problem if it sticks to the aid program. That comment, which was considered as bullish by investors, drove the U.S. dollar weaker and led commodity prices surge on Friday.The stock market was driven by higher commodities prices, with thin trading volume ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, despite somewhat disappointing economic data on Friday.The Commerce Department said that both personal income and spending rose 0.4 percent in April, in line with market estimates. However, the rise in spending was the smallest in three months, suggesting the consumption situation was still weak.Meanwhile, pending home sales dropped 11.6 percent in April. The reading was a seven-month low. The market expectation was a drop of 1 percent.Moreover, the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment index came in above analysts' estimates. Concerns about higher gas prices and inflation had knocked the gauge down in March and April.Despite those disappointing data, analysts still held a bullish view toward the stock market.
