Gavin Newsom has again denied parole for a member of the infamous "Mason family" who is serving time for a murder committed 50 years ago.Newsom blocked the release of 71-year-old Leslie Van Houten from prison Friday, despite a recommendation from the California parole board that she be freed.It's the fourth time in four years that Newsom has blocked Van Houten's release from prison. Newsom said in his Friday decision that she still poses a danger if released.Van Houten is serving a life sentence for helping Manson and others kill a Los Angeles couple in 1969. Bad actors online are gearing up for the election.Experts with the cyber security company Check Point are warning that before, during and after Election Day, you could see clever campaigns to cast doubt on accuracy and results of the election.“You know, in contrast to previous elections, where it's been about very targeted looking to gain access to things, we really think from what we've seen from a research perspective is that it will be a larger attempt to create disruption versus anything else,” said Mark Ostrowski with Check Point.The software company is warning of a flood of memes on social media. They say the goal is to get so many going and people sharing them that algorithms and admins won’t be able to keep up with taking them down.The goal is to spread false information or create disruption.Check Point is sounding the alarm so people can educate themselves and not spread these.“We even have some of our researchers and instant response folks have even seen some evidence or some type of reliable information where regardless of who wins, there are certain mean themes that are going to be saying, hey, this, this is who the victor is regardless of what the actual results are to again to create this indecision To create this division,” said Ostrowski.Obviously, you can simply report an image on any social media site and only share credible sources on election information. 1405

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers executed the second largest methamphetamine bust recently along the southwest borders in CBP's history, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.A press release states that a driver of a tractor-trailer with a "shipment that was manifested as medical supplies," pulled up to the Otay Mesa cargo border in San Diego Friday morning. An agent there at the time decided to pull the truck over for a more thorough inspection. Imagining systems, similar to an x-ray, were used to investigate the trailer and revealed suspicious components in the back of the trailer.Officers offloaded more than 1,800 packages mixed with medical supplies. That's when they discovered more than 3,100 pounds of methamphetamine, 64 pounds of heroin, 29 pounds of fentanyl powder, and almost 37 pounds of fentanyl pills. The narcotics are estimated to have a street value of .2 million, according to the press release.“This massive seizure is a testament of what law enforcement agencies can do when we combine forces – prevent over million worth of deadly drugs from entering our country; thus saving countless lives from addiction and overdose deaths,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge John W. At Tuesday’s presidential debate, President Donald Trump complained that poll watchers in Philadelphia were denied access to early voting in the critical battleground state.“I’m urging my supporters to go into the polls and watch very carefully because that’s what has to happen,” Trump said. “I am urging them to do it. As you know, today there was a big problem. In Philadelphia, they went in to watch. They’re called poll watchers, a very safe, very nice thing. They were thrown out. They weren’t allowed to watch. You know why? Because bad things happen in Philadelphia. Bad things.”Poll watching is generally a commonly-accepted democratic practice employed throughout the US. But there are questions on what constitutes a polling site.In Pennsylvania, voting centers are not considered polling locations. Early voting centers are locations where voters can pick up a mail-in ballot and can complete and return the ballot on-site. Voters have the option of taking the ballot home and returning it before the election.“We don’t give someone a poll watcher certificate to … watch somebody fill out their ballot at their kitchen table,” Republican Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt told the Philadelphia Inquirer.While poll-watching laws vary by state, the practice is generally accepted, but it has limits. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, poll watchers are to take a hands-off approach.For instance, poll watchers should not talk to voters, interfere with the voting process or campaign while on-site. Poll watchers, however, can watch for irregularities and report them to elections officials and political campaigns.There are generally limits on the number of poll watchers a campaign or party can designate. An accreditation process in 40 states means an ordinary citizen cannot walk into a polling site without some level of training, according to the Carter Center. "This process is led by local party chairs, candidates, or ballot issue groups and can require approval by election officials or the secretary of state’s office," the Carter Center said.Some interpreted Trump’s call for poll watchers as a voter intimidation tactic."Trump also told 'his supporters' to 'go into the polls and watch very carefully,'" said Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford on Twitter.
