WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced Monday the U.S. will formally designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Foreign Terrorist Organization."This unprecedented step, led by the Department of State, recognizes the reality that Iran is not only a State Sponsor of Terrorism, but that the IRGC actively participates in, finances, and promotes terrorism as a tool of statecraft," Trump said in a statement that described the IRGC as "the Iranian government's primary means of directing and implementing its global terrorist campaign."Iran warned this weekend that if the US went ahead with the designation, Tehran would retaliate by designating the US military as a terrorist organization in return.Iranian parliamentarian Seyed Jawad Sadatinejad told Iran's state-run FARS News on Saturday, "If any stupidity is carried out by the Americans, the Islamic Republic of Iran will practice reciprocity and designate the US military, which has killed many innocent people, to the list of terrorist groups." He said Iran could then treat US troops in the region the same way they treated terror groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda, reports FARS News. The designation will be the first time that the United States has ever named a part of another government as a foreign terrorist organization. 1317

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump is backing away from his threats to target Iranian cultural sites if Tehran retaliates for the killing of a top Iranian general by the U.S. It is a war crime to target cultural sites. Trump tweeted the threat over the weekend, then reiterated it to reporters as he flew back to Washington. But the president retreated Tuesday while speaking to the press during his meeting with the prime minister of Greece.“I like to obey the law, but think of it, they like to kill our people, they blow up our people, and we have to be very gentle with their cultural institutions, but I’m OK with it. It’s OK with me," said Trump. “I will say this, if Iran does anything that they shouldn’t be doing, they’re going to be suffering the consequences and very strongly.” On Monday, Defense Secretary Mark Esper had distanced the Pentagon from the president's threats by pledging that the U.S. will follow the laws of armed conflict. 970
WACO, Texas — A Houston boy who went missing in 2017 was found in Florida on Saturday with his father, who did not have custody of the child. The Sanford Police Department in Florida said Kenneth Graham, the boy’s father, left Texas with Joshua Graham at the end of 2017 without notifying his wife. It was believed he was taking the boy to Tallahassee, Florida, where Kenneth Graham previously lived. Tallahassee is about four hours away from Sanford, where the boy was found. Police in Florida said they were notified by Houston detectives on Friday that Joshua, now 9 years old, was in Sanford. The following morning, police found the boy and his father in a car at Fort Mellon Park. Police said the child was in good health.Joshua’s mother was granted sole custody of the boy in February 2018. Law enforcement in Houston filed Joshua as missing and “abducted by non-custodial parent” on March 26, 2019.“Regardless of the circumstances, the feelings of loss and devastation are indescribable when any child is taken from a parent,” said Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith. “The officers and investigators involved in this case are delighted to have played a significant role in reuniting this mother with her child after two long years. I am proud that the officers responding to this call quickly identified that something didn’t seem right, and those instincts led to this happy conclusion.”Joshua was taken into Child Protective Services custody while he waits to be reunited with his mother. Sanford police said law enforcement in Texas may file criminal charges at a later date. 1594
Walmart workers could soon go back to work at the El Paso store where 22 people were killed on August 3, a company spokeswoman said. The store near Cielo Vista Mall has been closed for nearly two months since a gunman opened fire in one of the deadliest attacks against Latinos in the US."Construction work on the Cielo Vista Walmart is progressing smoothly and we are currently working toward re-opening the store on Wednesday, November 6," Delia Garcia, the company's senior director of communications, said on Thursday.Garcia said employees are expected to return to the property in early October "to help prepare their store to serve the community again." About 93% of the hundreds of workers at the store were assigned to temporary jobs at multiple locations across the city following the mass shooting.Construction crews have been working to renovate the property since law enforcement returned control of the site to Walmart officials more than 10 days after the shooting. The renovation involves taking the store "down to the shell" and "basically rebuilding it," Randy Hargrove, Walmart's senior director for national media relations had said.Walmart announced last month its plans to dedicate an area of the store to honor the mass shooting victims."Our goal is to establish a memorial that honors the victims, recognizes the binational relationship between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, and celebrates the strength of the El Paso community," Hargrove said at the time.Family suing Walmart will be allowed inside storeRepresentatives for a 1557
