This year has brought a lot of changes for everyone and there could be a chance that those changes could translate to savings on your insurance policies.Bankrate is encouraging people with home and car insurance to take a fresh look at their policies.“You could save anywhere from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, but it is going to depend on location, it is going to depend on your lifestyle, and how it has changed vs the past. So, it is worth comparing and really kicking the tires on various insurance policies from different companies,” said Stephen Kates, Insurance Analyst at Bankrate. There are several lifestyle changes that could have happened this year. Many people took on home improvement projects during this pandemic. Some of those may have included adding safety features to our home, which can help save money on home insurance.A lot of Americans are also driving a lot less now, which can help with car insurance.“If you're working from home, like a lot of us, you're probably driving significantly less than you used to and that's something you can bring up to your insurance carrier because that can significantly reduce the amount you pay for your premium,” said Kates.Insurance policies haven't necessarily changed, but the way insurance companies look at lifestyle changes may have changed, so it's worth checking in on your policies. Experts at Bankrate suggest doing so at least once a year. 1429

Three Denver police officers have been suspended after three separate incidents this year of arrestees being forgotten in temporary holding cells overnight. Policy requires desk officers to check on people detained in holding cells every 30 minutes and to notify a supervisor if someone has been held there for more than an hour. The holding cells are supposed to be temporary stops for arrestees before they can be transported to the city jail. Yet one woman, in custody for an unpaid traffic ticket, sat in a sparse police department holding cell for nearly 13 hours. Handcuffed to a bench, Victoria Ugalde could not reach the toilet for much of the time and had no option but to urinate on the floor.  "They forgot about me," Ugalde said. "I was looking in the camera, I was [saying] 'Can anybody help me?' And then, nobody."The desk officer who was supposed to check on Ugalde admitted he failed to notice she was there because he was wrapped up in reading a book, titled "Emotional Intelligence 2.0."He served a three-day suspension and is back on the job.The seemingly strange scenario played out twice more this year, and the police department is weighing policy changes to prevent it from happening again. "It should not have occurred," said Jess Vigil, deputy director of the Denver Department of Safety. "It doesn’t sit well with me and it doesn’t sit well with the department.”"I cried a lot"Victoria Ugalde had her driver's license revoked after a DUI arrest in 2003. She said she quit drinking after that arrest. In 2013, a police officer caught her driving with her license still revoked and cited her. Ugalde admits she did not go to court because she could not pay, so the judge issued a warrant for her arrest. 1785

TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) -- Mexican authorities said a Chula Vista woman and her friend were gunned down at a family gathering in Tijuana. Investigators said the suspect is a Tijuana firefighter who shot at the two during a jealous rage. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Roxana Diaz."She was always smiling, she was kind of crazy," said Diaz' cousin Ivett Corral. "A happy lady."Tijuana investigators said Diaz went to visit a family friend, 39-year-old Carlos Roberto Trujillo, in Tijuana Aug. 15. They and another female friend met with several Tijuana firefighters at a get-together.Early the next morning, the three friends headed to Trujillo's home at Colonia Union. Police said the three firefighters ambushed the group, shooting at Trujillo and Diaz, and kidnapping the other woman.Trujillo died just outside his home. Diaz underwent surgery at Tijuana General Hospital but died Aug. 20 after she was transferred to UCSD Medical Center. "I start crying a lot because she was like a sister to me," Corral said. "She was more than a cousin. We grew up together."Police said after the firefighters kidnapped the woman, she screamed for help at a toll plaza on the way to Ensenada. Officers were alerted and arrested the firefighters.Mexican investigators said the alleged shooter, identified only as 27-year-old Ricardo N., is the boyfriend of the woman he and his co-workers kidnapped. They said he was jealous that she was socializing with her ex-boyfriend Trujillo and Diaz.Corral said Diaz was a long-time employee at Kentucky Fried Chicken on 3rd Street in Chula Vista. She worked hard to provide for her 16-year-old son.Trujillo's family said he worked at the Tijuana Town Hall. He leaves behind three children."We just want justice," Corral said. Trujillo's family told 10News the suspects are being held in Ensenada on suspicion of kidnapping but have not been charged with the murders of Trujillo and Diaz. The families of Diaz and Trujillo have established GoFundMe accounts. 2002

To All Members of the U-M Ann Arbor Community:The University of Michigan has received and acted on allegations of sexual misconduct against Martin A. Philbert, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. With the endorsement and full support of the U-M Board of Regents, I have placed Dr. Philbert on administrative leave, effective Jan. 21, 2020, pending the results of an investigation we began on Friday, Jan. 17.I will follow up in the coming days regarding the appointment of an acting provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. We take allegations of sexual misconduct very seriously, and our policy is clear: Sexual misconduct will not be tolerated in the University of Michigan community.I want to apprise everyone of what has happened over the last few days and the actions we have taken. On Thursday and Friday, Jan. 16-17, 2020, the university received several allegations of sexual misconduct by Dr. Philbert. We began an internal investigation Friday. Over the next three days, the university retained an outside law firm which immediately launched an investigation of the allegations, our Division of Public Safety and Security was engaged, and Dr. Philbert was directed not to report to work. I placed him on administrative leave Tuesday. The Office for Institutional Equity, who would normally handle such investigations, reports to the provost. Today, I have moved OIE’s reporting line for all matters related to this investigation to Associate Vice President for Human Resources Richard S. Holcomb. The U-M Board of Regents and I are committed to a full and thorough investigation, and we will continue to work to ensure the integrity of the process, following the same policy and practices that apply to all employees at U-M. It remains early in the investigation, and no findings or conclusions have been reached. We thank the individuals who have come forward with these allegations. We know that reporting requires courage. Thirteen days before the 2020 presidential election, former President Barack Obama arrived on the campaign trail in the Keystone State of Pennsylvania on Wednesday to lend a hand to his former Vice President Joe Biden. The stalwart and arguably most popular figure of the Democratic Party is hoping to lend his esteem among Democrats to push them to the polls for Biden. Opinion polls are showing a slight lead for Biden in Pennsylvania, and the state could end up being the keystone to reaching 270 Electoral College votes.Obama delivered a fiery rebuke of President Donald Trump, going after his leadership amid the coroanvirus pandemic, and his plans to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. "Where is this great plan to replace Obamacare? They’ve had 10 years to do it. There is no plan," Obama said. Pennsylvania played an important role in 2016 in sending Trump to the White House; Trump won the state by .6%. Trump was the first Republican presidential candidate to win the state since 1988, but the state has been hotly contested in tight elections. In 2004, John Kerry won Pennsylvania by just 2%, while Al Gore won the state by 4% in 2000.The former president had approval ratings well above those of Biden and Trump when he left office. In January 2017, Obama had a 59% approval rating nationally, according to Gallup. A year later, Gallup conducted a retrospective job approval rating, which gave him a 63% approval rating. By comparison, Trump has a 43% approval rating, according to Gallup; Biden has a 46% favorability rating.Due to the coronavirus, Wednesday’s rally was a drive-in, with supporters socially distanced.Joining Obama was a number of prominent Philadelphia-area Democrats, including Gov. Tom Wolf.Obama’s visit to Philadelphia comes less than 24 hours following Trump’s stop in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Biden campaign announced late Wednesday evening that Obama will once again be back on the campaign trail on Saturday with a visit to Miami. While Biden took the day from the campaign trail to prepare for Thursday's debate, Trump campaigned in North Carolina. 2093
