GOTEBORG, Sweden, March 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed a deal worth 1.8 billion U.S. dollars with Ford Motor Co. here Sunday to acquire the U.S. auto giant's Volvo car unit.Under the definitive stock purchase deal, Geely will own 100 percent of Volvo Cars and its related assets.The agreement was inked by Li Shufu, founder and chairman of Geely, and Lewis Booth, chief financial officer of Ford, at a ceremony at the headquarters of Volvo in Goteborg, the second largest city of Sweden. Geely Chairman Li Shufu attends a press conference after the signing ceremony in Goteborg of Sweden, March 28, 2010. Geely was named as the preferred bidder for the Swedish subsidiary in October 2009.Geely, which started to manufacture cars in 1998, is a major private automaker in China, with its headquarters based in southeast China's Zhejiang province. Geely Holding Group is the parent company of Geely Automobile Holdings.Besides Ford, some other Western auto giants are also seeking buyers in China. BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China leader Jia Qinglin Monday met a visiting Taiwan delegation, who had attended a ceremony last week in honor of Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor, on the Chinese mainland.Huangdi, a legendary hero who lived 4,000 years ago, is considered to be the common ancestor of all Chinese people.The ceremony was held on April 16, the third day of the third month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which is considered the birthday of Huangdi, at mausoleums in Xinzheng, central Henan Province, Huangdi's birth place.Jia, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told the delegation that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait were all Chinese and attending the ceremony showed they still loved the nation.Unification was always the trend of history, which could not be reversed by any force, said Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or the top political advisory body.He said people's concerted efforts on both sides had brought the situation across the Strait out of crisis, and achieved major breakthroughs in cross-Strait relations on the common ground that opposes "Taiwan independence" and adheres to the "1992 Consensus."Jia especially praised efforts of teachers and students of the Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy in fighting imperialist, warlords and Japanese invaders before the founding of New China, saying the school, which was established in 1924 and famous for its officer graduates, "greatly contributed to national unification and independence."He said the school's spirit should be continued to strengthen national identity across the Strait, promote exchanges, deepen political mutual trust and curb "Taiwan independence."

WINDHOEK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday arrived in Windhoek to kick off his official visit to the southwestern African nation of Namibia.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top advisory body, was making the visit at the invitation of the National Council of Namibia.Namibia was the second leg of Jia's 10-day African tour which already took him to Cameroon. NANPING, Fujian, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Four of the five injured school children in a stabbing attack in southeast China's Fujian Province Tuesday, which left eight dead, became conscious Thursday, local authorities said.The four were in a relatively stable condition but still faced uncertainties and were all under intensive care, said Liu Bin, an official with the health bureau of Nanping City, where the bloodshed occurred.Zheng Minsheng, a former community doctor in the city, stabbed 13 children at the entrance of a primary school Tuesday morning in Nanping when crowds of students were arriving, leaving eight dead and five injured.One senior doctor and several chest surgeons arrived in Nanping from Beijing Wednesday to treat the children.The Procuratorate of Yanping District in Nanping City approved the arrest of Zheng Wednesday afternoon, on charges of intentional homicide, said Ye Xianjin, director of the Yanping District procuratorate office Wednesday.Zheng committed the attacks as he felt frustrated after breaking up with his girlfriend last year. He also said he found life meaningless, according to Xu Jingping, deputy head of the city's public security bureau.
