(KGTV) - Southern California cities affected by the Thomas fire were evacuated Wednesday morning due to the threat of mudslides from an approaching storm.The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office issued a Recommended Evacuation Warning at 8 a.m. for the Thomas, Sherpa and Whittier burn areas in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria.A National Weather Service report indicated the area may receive moderate to heavy rainfall from a storm arriving Thursday that may generate mud and debris flows.RELATED: Local crew saves family from Montecito?mudslideThere is a high risk for loss of life and property, the SBCSO said. (KGTV) - Viral cellphone video shows how things turned ugly when a Starbucks customer was asked to put on her mask in Santee.On Sunday afternoon, at a Starbucks on North Magnolia, 19-year-old barista Alex Beckom says a female customer in a blue top pulled down her 'Trump 2020' mask to ask a question. Beckom says she asked the customer to put on the mask, which she did, before becoming agitated and took it off again. That's when another customer told ABC 10News he started recording."I'm not gonna listen to anything you say to me, when you talk to me like that," the customer is heard saying."Okay, that's fine, but next time when you come in I'm going to need you to keep your mask on," responds Beckom in the video."I told her that, so if she ever came back, the customer and staff would be protected," says Beckom.Moments later, the customer served up a different motive."And I know it's because you're discriminating against me, because I'm a Trump supporter. SAN YSIDRO (KGTV) -- Local businesses are feeling a one-two punch after the border closure for non-essential travel was extended during the coronavirus pandemic.The owner of El Rincon Restaurant in San Ysidro said the extension is devastating for business."I just found out a couple hours ago that they were going to do this, I had absolutely no clue," Owner Edgar Alaniz said. He was looking forward to the reopening of the border planned for June 22, now pushed back for a third time to July 21.Alaniz said he didn't want to be mad because all of this is to protect our health and safety but it's extremely difficult for businesses to survive after being closed for three months. Alaniz said about 75-80% of their customers come from Mexico. Currently, the business is only seeing about 20% of those customers. "That's what happens when the border is closed for three months, people find different ways and for a restaurant like me, they find a different restaurant," he said.He hopes when the border reopens to welcome them back.Alaniz said they closed the restaurant March 15, and continued with take-out service. (KGTV) -- San Marcos Unified School District teachers and parents flooded the school board meeting Tuesday night asking for the board to come to a contract agreement with their union. The meeting was standing room only. Union officials say they've been without a contract since last June and that they've tried to negotiate with the district. They're fighting for higher pay and smaller class sizes and getting all of these things in writing. There was no item on the agenda at Tuesday's meeting but the superintendent did address the teachers and parents directly during a presentation. Dr. Garcia told the crowd she hears them and appreciates them being present at the meeting but told them the issue with the union's request is a lack of adequate funding at the state level.
