CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP and KGTV) — Dozens of activists gathered Sunday morning in Charlottesville City Park to protest racism and observe the one-year anniversary of a deadly rally. The Rev. Seth Wispelwey is a founder of a group of clergy and lay people called "Congregate C-ville" last year. The group came together in direct response to white nationalists who gathered in Charlottesville for a "Unite the Right" rally on Aug. 12, 2017.That day, white supremacists clashed in the city before a car was driven into a crowd, striking and killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer. Photos of the day show violence erupting in the streets as groups clashed, launching pepper spray and punches at one another. PHOTOSFILE: Rally turns deadly in CharlottesvilleProtesters gather on one year anniversary of deadly Charlottesville rallyWispelway says the city's residents are still reeling from the violence that day, but he expressed hope that the anniversary can be a turning point. One day after tensions grew between police and community activists on the University of Virginia's campus. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - After hundreds of signs and fences along the trails at the Carlsbad Ecological Reserve are ripped from the ground, Fish and Wildlife is now setting up a specialized enforcement team. Secret cameras set up around the 500 acre reserve caught dozens of bikers ripping up signs, cutting fence wire and vandalizing property.Fish and Wildlife representative Peter Tira told 10News this is nothing new."We're not dealing with recreational mountain bikers, we're dealing with folks who disregard the law and believe the law doesn't apply to them," said Tira.Starting Saturday, April 6, Fish and Wildlife enforcement officers will hand out citations to all bikers who are caught riding the trails. Each citation comes with a 0 fine. "We've installed about 500 signs on this property almost all of which have been taken down or vandalized. On each of the signs it says 'No Bicycles'," said Tira. However, many mountain bikers who showed up to the trails Wednesday told 10News this is a popular spot for many in the Carlsbad area. Ivan Sekanovich comes to ride these trails at least once a week and is disappointed that Fish and Wildlife are letting the actions of a small group of bikers ruin it for the rest of them."For the most part, people know where they're supposed to hike and the bikers know where to bike," Sekanovich said. 1358

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A golfer in Florida didn't exactly "play it as it lies," during a recent round, but he was able to get his ball back after it landed on the back of a large alligator.Kyle Downes of Cape Coral was golfing at Coral Oakes Golf Course when his ball ended up on the back of a large alligator that was sunning itself near a water hazard. While a friend recorded on his phone, Downes slowly approached the gator from behind and was able to snatch the ball before it slithered away into the water.Downes later shared the video of his encounter on Facebook and added that the animal wasn't harmed in any way. This story was originally published by WFTX in Fort Meyers, Florida. 693

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) – A woman found dead on a Carlsbad hiking trail was stabbed to death, police revealed Tuesday.Carlsbad police said the 68-year-old white woman was walking or jogging Monday morning on the Hosp Grove Trail East, near the 2600 block of Monroe Street, when she was attacked. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the victim, a Carlsbad resident, was stabbed to death.According to police, a tip has helped in identifying a man who may have been in the area at the time of the incident. The man was described as white or Hispanic, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a husky build and a tan complexion with dark hair. The tipster told police the man was wearing a black shirt, black shorts, and possibly a black hat.Police said the man was seen walking slowly with a slight shuffle or limp.Police noted that it is “unknown at this time if this person is related to the incident.”Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area of Hosp Grove Trail East, between 10 a.m.-12 p.m., is urged to call Carlsbad police at 760-931-2165.Police said in light of the incident, extra patrols have been assigned to the area. 1184
