Driving through Denver, a giant milk jug demands your attention and the treats inside aren’t so bad either. Unfortunately, not all has been easygoing since the iconic shop has re-opened.Area Manager of Little Man Ice Cream, Dominic DiCarlantonio, says this ice cream hot spot hasn’t been spared from the controversy to wear or not to wear a mask in public."Ninety-nine percent of our community is amazing and has been helpful and supportive of all we’ve tried to do with COVID. The one percent has been very vocal and direct about things," says DiCarlantonio.Vocal is just half of it.Little Man Ice Cream owner, Paul Tamburello, posted to Facebook saying in one instance a customer spat on an employee. He said in another incident, a customer coughed on the counter and in the direction of workers and guests — all because they didn’t want to wear a mask, which is a mandatory requirement for the City and County of Denver.The order, which went into effect on May 6, requires residents and employees to wear face coverings while inside of, or waiting in line to enter, certain businesses, facilities or locations, such as retail stores, bus stops or health care facilities.Anyone violating the order could face a civil penalty of up to 9, per violation.The owner of the ice cream shop says those who choose not to wear a mask can pick up a pint elsewhere.This story originally reported by Ivan Rodriguez at thedenverchannel.com. 1439

EL CAJON (KGTV): It's become as much a back-to-school tradition as new pencils and notebooks; new buildings and construction at Grossmont Union High School District campuses."We're bringing everything up," says Mount Miguel Principal Jake Gaier. "These students will walk in the door and have access to things that we just haven't had access to before."His school is set to open a new Student Services Center, where state of the art facilities await students and parents as they register for class or meet with guidance counselors. They're also getting a new public events center and turning the old administration building into a STEM complex.The work at Mount Miguel is part of 9 million worth of upgrades that have been underway in the district since 2004. Since then, a trio of voter-approved bonds has helped GUHSD upgrade their aging campuses, some of which date back to the 1950s.In 2004, Proposition H gave the district 4 million. Proposition U in 2008 added another 7 million. And Measure BB in 2016 gave the district 8 million. To date, the district has spent 1 million of that money.Every school has benefited from the bonds, with some campuses getting work done on every single building.At Santana High School, a new PE building will open this spring. They also renovated STEM labs, giving their award-winning robotics program its own space, and adding an observation balcony for visitors to watch the kids work without disrupting them.Principal Tim Schwuchow requires that every student join an extracurricular activity. He says the new facilities reinforce the connection between academics and electives."The kids will really feel they're valued and their extracurricular activities are important to the school," he says.Granite Hills is also getting a new PE Building. It will be combined with a new Food Services building."We serve 700 meals a day," says Principal Mike Fowler. "The kitchen we use was built in 1960. It's too slow."Construction crews started pouring the concrete foundation earlier this month. Fowler says the new facility will be a game changer for his students, allowing the building to keep pace with changing curriculum.It can also be used in case of emergency as a community evacuation center.Those three schools have been the focus on construction this summer. Since may, Granite Hills has gotten .5 million in work done. Mount Miguel has received .7 million. Santana got .4. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man accused of a hit-and-run crash on Highway 57 in Ramona pleaded not guilty Thursday. A judge set the bail at million for Chase Richard. Richard is accused of swerving into Michelle Scott and driving with her bicycle attached to his car for more than two miles during Tuesday’s crash. RELATED: Man arrested, vehicle seized in Ramona hit-and-run crashWitnesses said Richard ran red lights and stop signs before pulling into his driveway five miles from the scene. In court Thursday, prosecutors said Richard removed the front hood and bumper and spray-painted the rear of his Ford Edge. Investigators said Richard appeared to be making a run for it when they arrived. He had a large suitcase and backpack in a running vehicle when he was arrested. Richard faces up to nine years in prison if convicted. Dozens of wildfires are burning throughout California in August as news is emerging that a wildfire burning in Northern California is the largest in state history. The fires burning a few miles apart, known as the Mendocino Complex, started on July 27 and now encompasses an area the size of Los Angeles. 2018 also marks the second straight year California has recorded the state's largest wildfire following the Thomas Fire in 2017. A fire that began Monday is also spreading quickly in Orange County. Known as the Holy Fire, the blaze is tearing through fuel that has been accumulating for 40 years. Currently, nearly 30 wildfires are burning throughout California.
