NEW YORK CITY — After camping out in Manhattan's City Hall Park for weeks, remaining Occupy City Hall protesters were cleared out by police early Wednesday, the NYPD said.Officers in riot gear arrived on the scene around 3:40 a.m. local time to remove "illegal occupiers" of City Hall Park, police said.Police gave a verbal warning for protesters to disperse at least ten minutes before moving in to clear the park, according to the NYPD.The NYPD said seven people were arrested. NEW YORK (AP) — New York’s Democratic attorney general asked a court to enforce subpoenas into an investigation into whether President Donald Trump and his businesses inflated assets on financial statements.Attorney General Letitia James filed a petition Monday in state trial court in New York City naming the Trump Organization, an umbrella group for the Republican president’s holdings. It also included other business entities.The filing also named Eric Trump and Seven Springs, a New York estate owned by the Trump family.“I took action to force the Trump Organization, and specifically EVP Eric Trump, to comply with my office’s ongoing investigation into its financial dealings,” wrote James on Twitter on Monday. “For months, the Trump Organization has failed to fully comply with our subpoenas in this investigation.”The attorney general’s office is investigating whether the Trump Organization and the president improperly inflated the value of assets to secure loans and obtain economic and tax benefits.James says their investigation began after Michael Cohen, the president’s former lawyer, testified before Congress that Trump’s annual financial statements inflated the values of his assets to obtain favorable terms for loans and insurance coverage, while also deflating the value of other assets to reduce real estate taxes.“We are seeking thousands of documents and testimony from multiple witnesses regarding several Trump Organization properties and transactions, including from Eric Trump, who was intimately involved in one or more transactions under review,” wrote James. 1601

NEW YORK — Indoor dining in New York City will close beginning Monday amid the rising spread of COVID-19 increased hospitalizations linked to the virus, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday.“We said that we would watch it if the hospitalization rate didn’t stabilize, we would close indoor dining. It is not,” Cuomo said.Outdoor dining and takeout will continue, he added.The increasing rate of transmission has been a problem, especially in densely populated areas, Cuomo said.The governor added that the state will monitor indoor dining data in areas outside of New York City and orange zones. Adjustments will be made next week if needed. Previously, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised masks because of medical evidence that it stops people who are infected with coronavirus — whether they know it or not — from spreading it to others. But this week the CDC posted on its Web site a scientific brief discussing recent studies finding that a wearer gets some protection even if an infected person has no mask.The brief added that adopting a universal masking policy, "can help avert future lockdowns, especially if combined with other non-pharmaceutical interventions such as social distancing, hand hygiene, and adequate ventilation.""Experimental and epidemiological data support community masking to reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2. The prevention benefit of masking is derived from the combination of source control and personal protection for the mask wearer. The relationship between source control and personal protection is likely complementary and possibly synergistic, so that individual benefit increases with increasing community mask use," the brief read.
