Three weeks into the 2019 racing season, both attendance and overall betting handle are down at Del Mar. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club says attendance is down about 5 percent, and handle is down 14 percent compared to 2018. Thoroughbred Club CEO Joe Harper says the issues surrounding the 30 horse deaths at Santa Anita have turned off some fans. "We've got to prove to our racing fans that we're doing the safest things we can to keep these horses healthy," he said. So far, three horses have died at Del Mar this season, all during training (two died in a freak accident when they collided head on before the second day of racing). Harper says the track has increased safety protocols that have been helping keep horses safe. "There's vets out there every morning keeping an eye on," he said. "They see a horse that maybe doesn't look that good, isn't warming up enough to where he'd be safe, we get him off the racetrack."Harper says the attendance and betting handle are on track with estimates. (KGTV) - The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department detailed the circumstances leading deputies to search Tuesday the Thousand Oaks home of actress Heather Locklear.The actress was arrested at her home February 25 on suspicion of felony domestic battery and three counts of battery on a peace officer.Locklear told deputies she would shoot them if they ever came to her house again, investigators said.According to the search warrant, deputies looked for a firearm Locklear has registered in her name but did not find it on the property.Locklear is scheduled to appear in court March 13. 614

Toby the cat has been on quite the adventure in recent weeks.After his owners near Raleigh, North Carolina decided to drop off Toby at a friend's home, Toby left to return to his previous owners, who lived 12 miles away, according to the SPCA of Wake County, North Carolina. Instead of taking Toby back in after his 12-mile trek, the family instead took him to a shelter and requested the staff euthanize the cat. Times Square was a hive of activity Tuesday afternoon, as more than 40,000 bees swarmed a hot dog stand at the corner of Broadway and West 43rd Street.Known as an absconded hive, the bees were looking for a new home to escape the sweltering heat, said Officer Darren Mays, one of the New York Police Department's two official beekeepers."The hive got overcrowded because it was hot and humid and they just needed a new place to go so they can keep cool," Mays said. He also runs the official NYPD Bees Twitter account, which was buzzing with likes and retweets as many New Yorkers learned that their police force had beekeepers on staff.Mays said the bees likely went looking for a new home after leaving one of the rooftop hives of a nearby building.Second-beekeeper-in-command, Officer Michael Lauriano, responded to the scene in full protective gear, including a netted bee helmet. It took Lauriano 45 minutes to carefully vacuum the bees. (AP) — New Mexico authorities say multiple people have been killed in a commercial passenger bus crash along Interstate 40.New Mexico State Police did not say how many people died or how many were injured in Thursday's crash.They said passengers were transported to a hospital and a phone number was set up for family members seeking more information about people who were aboard the bus.The wreckage included a Greyhound bus with front-end damage and a semi-truck that was on its side and with its cargo strewn across the highway and the median.Greyhound says the bus was heading from Albuquerque to Phoenix and there were 47 passengers on board.Spokeswoman Crystal Booker says it's unclear what caused the crash.The crash forced the closure of the westbound lanes of the interstate and traffic was backing up as travelers were being diverted. 866
