In a security policy that has been implemented in many stadiums and arenas around the country, large bags will soon be banned inside Cinemark's movie theaters, the company has announced. The ban will go into effect on Thursday at all of its theaters. Cinemark is the parent company of chains such as Rave Motion Pictures, Century Theatres, CineArts and Tinseltown. Bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches will not be permitted. Exceptions may be made for medical equipment and diaper bags. Cinemark said there will not be anywhere to check bags. The chain also said that the company reserves the right to inspect all bags entering its theaters. A Century Theatre, which is owned by Cinemark, was the scene of a mass shooting in July 2012, when 12 were killed and 58 were wounded by a gunman. Survivors and families of the victims sued Cinemark claiming the company did not take adequate safety and security precaution. A US federal judge then threw out most of the claims against Cinemark in 2013.  1078

(KGTV) - The daughter of PGA star Phil Mickelson will make her acting debut in a movie partially shot in San Diego.Sophia Mickelson has a featured role in Ruta Madre, a coming of age story about a singer who discovers his family and roots on a road trip through Baja.According to the movie's website, Ruta Madre deals with issues of self-identity in a bi-national region."It reflects the feeling of many Latinos, especially Mexicans, who have emigrated or were born here, but who have not they feel neither from here nor from there,” director and screenwriter Agustín Casta?eda said in a 2016 interview.Mickelson plays "Daisy," the lead character's childhood crush. "Having strong roots in the SD community as well made me want to revisit those kind of family connections and place more value on it."Mickelson's family is well known in San Diego. He's arguably, San Diego's favorite golfer.Sophia hopes the city will embrace her film career the same with people here have rallied around her father. In a small town in Utah, life moves at a slower pace, and social distancing there is easy.“I think it’s quiet,” said Kelton Wells. “I think it’s a beautiful valley and I just love it up here.”Wells owns Keystone Cabinets, where he employs 12 people, including Ned Miller.“I’ve lived here in the valley my whole life,” said Miller. “It’s fun because I can create what I consider works of art.”In a flurry of dust and noise, solid pieces of wood transform, all while people keep their distance.“We have a little bit better spacing here. We don’t have the close shoulder-to-shoulder contact that somebody would over there, Miller said as he motioned with his hand towards JBS Beef Plant.“I feel bad for the people who work there.”Meatpacking may be a world away from cabinetry, but in terms of distance, they are practically neighbors.In June, COVID-19 swept through the facility, infecting nearly 300 of its workers, but the facility stayed open.“Nobody was running around in panic, throwing picket signs up and wanting everybody to put a ‘C’ on their forehead down at the plant,” Miller said with a smile. “I didn’t get that type of a feeling for it.”They still don’t.“What comes will come and we’ll take it as it goes, I guess,” Well said with a shrug of the shoulders. “I don’t think a lot of people were super alarmed by it.”In a town where everyone knows someone who works at the facility, there is a feeling of “life must go on.”“I mean, we all got to survive. Our work has to get done so we do what we can to keep it going and keep people happy,” Wells said.The CDC set up shop for weeks at the health department, making sure people in this community stayed safe and JBS stayed open.“We’ve got a good plan going with JBS,” Josh Greer, with Bear River Health Department, said. “(JBS) has got great controls in place.”The people in Hyrum, Utah are not alone.JBS has had outbreaks at plants in Colorado, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas and Wisconsin.“I think people are just trying to do the best they can,” Wells said.In Hyrum, the work will go on, whether it is with meat or with wood.In a place where people come to escape the noise of city life, it is hard to escape the question on everyone’s minds.“When will we return to normal and what is the new normal going to be?” Miller asked. 2304

If you watch the Republican National Convention this week, you will hear claims from Republicans that Joe Biden, if elected, would hurt suburban living. So what are Republicans talking about? THE POLICYRepublicans are talking about the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule, which President Barack Obama and Biden updated in 2015. Biden has signaled he'd support even further updating of the rule. The rule basically says that if a town takes federal money, they should examine whether they engage in housing discrimination. Nothing is mandated, but it generally encourages an examination of whether zoning laws encourage developers to build large, family homes as opposed to more affordable options like an apartment or a condo. Trump disagrees with that policy and is against the rule. BATTLE FOR THE SUBURBSThe issue is being brought up by Republicans because for them, the election will be decided by the suburbs. Cities will generally vote for Biden, rural America will vote for Trump. How large suburbs vote will determine who is in the White House. Kim Stewart is an undecided voter living in a suburban community an hour outside of Washington D.C. "I love having the space, having a yard," Stewart said, talking about why she and her husband moved to the suburbs. When asked what she thought of more apartments being built in suburbs like hers, Stewart, admitted she didn't like it. "It would make me feel a little uncomfortable. We enjoy the quiet," Stewart said. THE OTHER SIDEThe Biden campaign says what Trump is saying about Joe Biden and the suburbs is a smear campaign, contending the rule is not "abolishing the suburbs" as Trump has said. There is also another side. Shantai High is a resident in a D.C. low income housing community. She's lived in her apartment for nearly 19 years. She says everyone in a low income housing would like more affordable options, in cities and in suburbs. "It’s tough everywhere.
