CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) — An East County resident happened upon a massive surprise Friday morning.A wayward tortoise was found by the resident on Buckman Springs Rd. in Campo Friday. A San Diego County Department of Animal Serivces officer responded to the report but immediately realized he would not be able to lift the animal on his own.A Cal Fire crew arrived to help get the tortoise out of the yard, coaxing it onto a stretcher and then lifting the heavy reptile into an Animal Services vehicle.The tortoise was then taken to the department's Bonita shelter.While it's unclear how the massive animal ended up in the East County yard, Animal Services said someone called soon after the catch to report it may have been their tortoise, aptly named "Tank." Calico Critters and a VTech Drill & Learn Toolbox are among several toys a Florida consumer advocacy group has deemed dangerous in its annual toy safety report ahead of the busy holiday shopping season.On Monday, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group Education Fund (PIRG) released its "Trouble in Toyland," a guide to help keep children safe from dangerous toys.The report warns about several toys being sold across the U.S. are choking hazards, recalled toys being resold on eBay, magnets being swallowed, noisy toys, and in-app purchases.When it comes to toys with small parts, the report recommends parents inspecting the toys thoroughly "regardless of what the label does or doesn't say."For noisy toys, the report says they can hurt your child's hearing, so an adult should lower the volume or place tape over the speakers to "muffle the sound."Several toys mentioned in the report include:Neutronball building sets and magnets made by Zen Magnets LLC are considered choking hazards, according to PRIG."Never allow young children to play with high-powered magnets, and talk with older children about the dangers of being careless and leaving them within reach of their siblings," the report stated.Toys that have been recalled - 6" Promotional Aflac Doctor Duck, the Step2 Little Helper's Children's Grocery Shopping Cart, and the Fisher-Price Barbie Dream Camper — were recently found for sale on eBay."When shopping for toys, especially at garage sales and second-hand stores or sites, check saferproducts.gov to confirm the toy hasn't already been recalled," the report said.The report is there to inform the public as well as suggest guidelines for lawmakers. 1683

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A gunman opened fire on two New Jersey police officers while they were sitting in their vehicle at a red light Tuesday night, wounding them in what authorities are calling an ambush attack.At least one suspect opened fire on the plainclothes detectives in Camden, which is located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, said Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson."The information we have thus far is that they were essentially ambushed," Thomson told reporters at a late night news conference. "A male walked up and began opening fire. We have anywhere between 10 and 25 rounds that were fired at the officers."One of the detectives was able to return fire, Thomson said, but it was not immediately clear if anyone else was shot. Thomson said his department was in communication with hospitals in the region.The detectives were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive."At this point in time our officers have non-life-threatening injuries but not for the grace of God quite frankly," Thomson said. Chad Daybell was arrested Tuesday after investigators recovered what they believe are human remains on his property.A search warrant was executed at his home in Salem, Idaho Tuesday morning in connection to the search for two missing children — his 7-year-old stepson Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old stepdaughter Tylee Ryan.The remains have not been identified.Police took Daybell into custody about a mile from his home as numerous police officers and FBI agents served the search warrant. He was booked into the Fremont County Jail several hours later. Specific charges were not disclosed, but authorities did say they were felony charges and that he was being held with no bond.East Idaho News reports Daybell's car was stopped about a mile from his home and police took him into custody.According to a news release from the Rexburg Police Department, its officers, with the assistance of the FBI and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, served the search warrant around 7 a.m. Tuesday.FBI Public Affairs Specialist for the Salt Lake office, Sandra Barker, has confirmed that the FBI is assisting with the search warrant.She told CourtTV there are about 20 FBI personnel on scene helping, including agents and support staff.The warrant is sealed, meaning that the information is only available to law enforcement officers working on this case.Numerous roads around the home are closed and drivers are being re-routed.Chad and Lori Vallow Daybell were found living in Hawaii in January.
