BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China hopes that the deal Iran struck with Brazil and Turkey will help advance the process of resolving the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiations, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Tuesday.Yang made the comments in telepone conversations with his Turkish and Brazilian counterparts, Ahmet Davutoglu and Celso Amorim.Yang said that China has always sticked to the "dual-track" strategy in seeking a solution to the Iran nuclear issue and China appreciates the mediation efforts made by Turkey and Brazil.China attaches importance to and welcomes the agreement the two countries signed with Iran on supplying nuclear fuel for the research reactor in Tehran, he added.Davutoglu and Amorim briefed Yang on the efforts Turkey and Brazil have made concerning the Iran nuclear issue.They stressed that the deal the two countries reached with Iran is an important and positive step, which offers a new chance for the international community to peacefully solve the Iran nuclear issue through diplomatic means.Iran signed an accord with Turkey and Brazil in Tehran on Monday under which it will ship most of its low enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for the 20-percent uranium fuel needed for its Tehran reactor.

CANBERRA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting General Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and Australian Minister for Defense John Faulkner have vowed to strengthen exchanges between the armed forces of China and Australia.China and Australia shared common interests and desire in ensuring the peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region, said a joint statement released by Guo and Faulkner Friday.The two sides hailed the development of their military-to-military relationship in recent years and said positive outcomes had been achieved through senior visits and exchanges in education, training and technical areas.Both sides agreed that strengthening open dialogue on defense and security issues between Australia and China was conducive to promoting bilateral relations.The statement said China and Australia were both pleased with the outcomes of the current visit and the opportunity it provided to further strengthen bilateral ties and military exchanges.The Sino-Australia defense relationship was an important part of bilateral ties and both sides would work concertedly to sustain sound and stable development in this regard, it said.Both countries should respect and take into full consideration each other's core interests and major concerns, and develop ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, the statement said. BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese equities dropped to a seven-month low Tuesday, after the central bank said Sunday it would raise the deposit reserve requirement ratio (RRR) for most financial institutions for the third time this year.The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.23 percent to close at 2,835.28 points.The Shenzhen Component Index fell 1.81 percent to 10,960.77 points.Total turnover shrank to 141.55 billion yuan (20.7 billion U.S. dollars) from 191.91 billion yuan on the previous trading day.Losers outnumbered gainers by 533 to 347 in Shanghai and 488 to 429 in Shenzhen.

BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- China's disaster relief authorities Wednesday launched an emergency response plan to help victims of the rainstorms and flooding in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which has left at least 30 dead.The China National Committee for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Civil Affairs initiated a level IV emergency response plan and dispatched a working team to help guide relief work in the flood-hit zone.Heavy rains began pounding many places in Guangxi Monday and triggered landslides early Wednesday. The level depends on damages and losses as well as the number of affected people.
