SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunday morning's rain caused crashes on roadways, damage to construction zones and danger in Sunset Cliffs.One of those crashes had Cristal Ramirez in the passenger seat. "I was supposed to drive for brunch but my friend picked us up and I was glad because I didn't want to drive in the rain," she said.She said as they took the connector from the 163 to the I-8 West they started sliding, "I think we were driving a little too fast because of the rain." Ramirez said they grazed the guardrail. The tires were out of alignment, making it necessary to call for a tow truck."We were like what the heck this is wild!" She said.The group didn't let the accident ruin their afternoon, they continued on in Ramirez's car to Sunset Cliffs.The danger still lurking behind yellow caution tape, draped along the edge of one part of the cliff. From where she and her two friends stood, you could see the cliff carved away underneath the seemingly solid edge."I didn't think about it, I was like 'Oh we're close to the edge.' and we started playing around and I was like, 'Oh we probably shouldn't be playing this close to the edge," Ramirez said when she realized the danger.South of Sunset Cliffs, another problem at the Silver Strand State Beach exit off SR 75. The rain caused metal plates covering trenches in a construction area to bend inward.Crews rushed out to reinforce the plates to make them safe, adding wood supports. An engineer told 10News the construction should be finished by next week, if the weather doesn't delay the work. 1559

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man police say hit and killed a pedestrian on a South Bay road in late July has been arrested.According to police, Carlos Franco, 20, turned himself in to investigators Tuesday and was booked into jail for vehicular manslaughter.San Diego Police on July 30 received a report of a crash on Del Sol Boulevard and Dennery Road at 7:03 a.m.RELATED: Pedestrian hit, killed on south San Diego street  Police say Franco struck a 66-year-old man, who was crossing the street at the time of the crash. The man, who hasn’t been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.Following the crash, Franco stayed on scene. Police say drugs or alcohol weren’t factors in the crash. 712

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Coronado Police Department released an image Monday of a vehicle that may be related to BB gun incidents in Coronado Sunday. 10news has learned five people were struck in the downtown area. Police spent the morning scouring the ground near State Street and West Broadway. An officer told 10news four people were crossing State Street late Saturday night or early Sunday evening when three of them were hit. The extent of their injuries are unknown. At the corner of L Street and Sixth Avenue in the East Village, a woman was shot in the arm early Sunday morning, according to San Diego Police. She was walking in a small group and one of the men was an exhibitor at Comic Con, staying at the Omni Hotel, where they were headed before the shooting. The early morning shooting was not the only one that occurred overnight. In National City and Paradise Hills, at least a dozen cars were hit, and in Coronado, police said at least 23 businesses, homes an cars were struck by BBs.10news brought the image of a white sedan released by Coronado Police to Roman Beck, who has worked as an accident reconstruction expert for two decades."I believe it's a 2005 to 2010 Chrysler 300 sedan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The National Parks Service will survey San Diego's Chicano Park and its murals as part of efforts to add the land to the national list.The reconnaissance survey is expected to be completed next year and will evaluate the significance of the park and its artwork.The NPS announcement comes after Rep. Juan Vargas introduced a bill in 2019, The Chicano Park Preservation Act, that would require the Department of Interior to conduct a study of the park's merits for national affiliation.RELATED: Bill pushes to add San Diego's Chicano Park to National Park SystemVargas said in a release Wednesday that the NPS is willing to conduct the study without passing a bill requiring the department to do so."I’m very pleased to learn that the National Park Service will begin their preliminary assessment of Chicano Park early next year. The National Park Service affiliation will help protect the park’s longevity and legacy," said Vargas.Being affiliated with the NPS would allow the park to be eligible for technical or financial aid. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Thanksgiving with the Salvation Army will be different in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic."We knew that we were going to do something," says Captain Sean Kelsley, who oversees the Salvation Army East County Operations. "The question was, what would it look like?"For the past 30 years, the Salvation Army held large, family-style gatherings to feed people experiencing homelessness, the disabled, and families in need at Golden Hall for Thanksgiving. They plan for 1,800 people, plus volunteers.But a gathering of 2,000+ people is strictly forbidden under California and San Diego County COVID-19 guidelines.In its place, the Salvation Army will offer "grab-and-go" style meals at four locations around the county."We're just glad to be able to be here," says Captain Kelsey.
