For years, the White House Correspondents Association has pushed for access to the White House grounds for reporters and news media. On Wednesday, the WHCA told its members to stay away.The White House Correspondents Association’s recommendation came as three of its members are recovering from coronavirus infections. There have also been a number of infections among White House press staffers, including press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.In response to the cluster of coronavirus cases, the WHCA said that only a handful of journalists should work from the White House grounds. The association says other than reporters working at the White House as part of the “pool” as well as those with enclosed offices should refrain from working inside the White House. Pool correspondents are the small, rotating group of reporters who share reports to the rest of the media.“We would also strongly encourage all journalists to avoid working from the White House grounds entirely if it can be avoided,” WHCA chair Zeke Miller said.Miller said that the organization has been pushing for the White House to help with contact tracing.“We have communicated to the White House that, as a press corps, we would like more information to evaluate our own potential exposure,” Miller said. “We have pressed for them to provide updates on known and suspected infections so that reporters can as soon as possible know if they and their families have been put at risk. The administration, citing privacy concerns, has not provided additional details.”Miller said that protocols by White House journalists have helped minimize spread of the virus among its members.“While we are awaiting additional test results for some members, it appears clear that our safe behavior has helped contain this virus,” he said. “We haven’t just been lucky, we have followed science and we have been vigilant.” 1880

Frankie Kipp started the Blackfeet Nation Boxing Club in 2003 for a simple reason. He wanted to teach vulnerable people on the reservation, especially women and young girls, to defend themselves.After years of working as a probation officer, he was tired of bearing witness to tragedy after tragedy. Kipp was a successful amateur boxer in his youth and connected the two sides of his life with the club. Next week, Kipp’s life work and his pupils will be recognized on the big screen. The club will be featured in a documentary called “Blackfeet Boxing: Not Invisible”, set to air Tuesday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.“I started seeing girls getting bullied,” Kipp said from his home in Browning, Montana. “And several in their 20s wanted to learn how to take up for themselves because they were getting abused. We start hearing about young ladies getting taken from Indian country. And so I started training my daughter and I told her if something happens, at least you're going to know how to fight for your life.”Over the past 20 years, Kipp has trained more than 500 boxers on the reservation, and he’s seen positive effects in his charges and in the community.“Some of the girls that come into the boxing club have really low self-esteem. And the confidence they get from boxing is just phenomenal,” Kipp said. “But I don’t train bullies. I tell all the boxers to go to authority figures first if someone is threatening them. But let them know that you box for Blackfeet Nation and that you won’t let anyone hit you. You will fight back.”“It was emotional a sense that, I was a probation officer prior and I put a lot of things upstairs in my head, unpleasant things,” Kipp said. “I had to talk several people out of suicide, kids as young as 8 years old wanted to kill themselves. The documentary had brought a lot of memories back up. There were a few that were real unpleasant that made me break down during the interview.”‘Blackfeet Boxing: Not Invisible’, directed by Kristen Lappas and Tom Rinaldi, is a film about fighting — for respect, identity and acknowledgment.The documentary, which has already screened at several film festivals, paints the gym against the backdrop of stories like that of Ashley Loring-Heavyrunner and several other Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Kipp hopes the large audience will help spread awareness to the silent epidemic.“I think it would raise awareness, not just on our reservation but most of the Indian nations. This is what's happening, people are coming up missing,” Kipp said. “We have unsolved murders. It’s crazy some of the things that we see. I do think that it's going to bring up some awareness with that.”There are no scorecards or knockouts for many of the boxers on the Blackfeet Reservation. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Police apprehended a kangaroo that was on the loose Thursday morning in Fort Lauderdale.Residents living near North Andrews Avenue and 13th Street reported seeing a runaway kangaroo hopping through their neighborhood.Fort Lauderdale police officers arrived and, with the help of wildlife officers, were able to leash the kangaroo and guide the animal into the back of a police cruiser.It was not immediately known how the kangaroo made its way to Fort Lauderdale, but the marsupial avoided a trip to the slammer.Instead, the Australian tourist was taken to the South Florida Wildlife Center. FORT MYERS, Fla. —A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to set a Planned Parenthood on fire in Fort Myers, Florida.The Lee County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that Everett Little was taken into custody after a search warrant was served at his home.The 20-year-old man is being charged with arson, criminal mischief, and using an incendiary device.Officers believe Little committed arson at the facility on Commerce Park Drive on Oct. 10.The act was caught on surveillance cameras and law enforcement distributed the photos of the suspect, asking the public for help locating him.In the end, authorities said they identified Little thanks to the community’s help."That act was caught on camera, and through Crime Stoppers, he's behind bars," said Sheriff Carmine Marceno in a statement on Facebook.
