MOSCOW, Aug 20 (Xinhua) -- Trade between China and Russia has returned to the fast track in 2010, as bilateral trade volume reached 30.7 billion U.S. dollars from January to July, Russian and Chinese officials said here Friday.That represented a 49.6-percent increase year-on-year, the officials said at the 13th meeting of the Russia-China inter-governmental trade commission, which was co-chaired by Russia's Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina and her Chinese counterpart Chen Deming.Mutual investments also surged this year, as Chinese direct investment to Russia jumped 58.5 percent during the first half of 2010 and the Russian investment to China up 18.3 percent, they said.Russia is interested in continuing cooperation in such areas as electric power, nuclear energy, logistic infrastructure, Nabiullina said.Chen said Chinese companies are willing to increase investment in Russian enterprises and to take part in their infrastructure construction.He noted that China would take active measures to promote the import of Russian mechanical and electrical products, and also hopes that in return Russia will open its market to more Chinese cars.During the meeting, chambers of commerce and companies from the two countries inked several cooperation agreements.

BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Floods in China have killed 377 people this year, as of Friday, and left 142 others missing, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Friday in a statement on its website.Further, flooding in 2010 has affected 64.57 million people in China's 22 provinces, municipalities and regions, as well as inundating about 4 million hectares of crops, the statement said.A total of 4.35 million people have been evacuated due to the flood waters, which destroyed 368,000 homes and caused economic losses reaching 75.6 billion yuan (11.13 billion U.S. dollars), according to the statement.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited flood-hit Fuzhou City in the eastern province of Jiangxi Thursday to inspect the fight against flooding and review disaster relief efforts. QINGDAO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The spread of green algae has quickened as the temperature rises in Qingdao City of east China's Shandong Province.The area covered by green algae surged by 60 sq. km on Tuesday to 460 sq. km, according to the latest monitoring figure by the North China Sea Branch of the State Oceanic Administration released Wednesday.The surge is three times as fast as the average increase over the past four days, which was from 380 to 400 sq. km."It's getting hotter and hotter in Qingdao these days, and the green algae grows faster and faster," said Wang Zhigang, a local resident who swims in the sea every day.Sixteen to 20 degrees Celsius were the most favorable sea temperature range for growth of the algae, said Pang Shaojun, a researcher from the Institute of Oceanology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.The air temperature in Qingdao has risen by one degree Celsius per day on average over the past five days, reaching 27 degree Celsius Wednesday, according to the city's meteorological bureau."The sea temperature has risen to 20 degrees Celsius today, and the algae will keep growing if the temperature keeps rising," Pang said.The weather report said there would be a heavy rain in Qingdao, which would lower the air temperature to 25 degrees Celsius in the next three days, which meant the sea temperature would remain in the best range for the continued spreading of the green algae.Over 6,000 people, including cleaning workers and sea police, were deployed to clean the green algae as its continuing spread might affect the local fishery and tourism industries, said Ding Shugen from the Qingdao Committee of Municipal and Rural Construction.
