Don’t expect BLM and social justice messages on basketball courts or jerseys in the NBA next season, according to league Commissioner Adam Silver.The 2020 NBA season has gotten a lot of attention for both the league’s response to the coronavirus pandemic with a “bubble” and their public embrace of social justice issues and the Black Lives Matter movement this summer.During a NBA Countdown interview on ESPN ahead of a playoff game earlier this week, Silver was asked about the league championing social justice and civil rights, but as Silver noted in a press conference recently, that has not been universally popular.“How committed are you to being that going forward?” host Rachel Nichols asked.Silver quickly responded, “We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality. It’s part of the DNA of this league.”He then said changes could come in how that commitment is manifested. The commissioner acknowledged the league has to sit down with the players and discuss for next season.“I would say in terms of the messages you see on the court on our jerseys, this was an extraordinary moment in time, when we began the discussions with the players and what we all lived through this summer,” Silver said.In July, when the league restarted their 2020 season from a so-called bubble in Orlando, “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court floor. Players, coaches and staff stayed in Orlando this summer and drastically limited contact with the outside world and other people, in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Also this season, players were allowed to put slogans or phrases on their jerseys to highlight causes they support.The league was also the first large sports group to protest playing games in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Instead, many teams and other leagues spent time focused on social justice issues.Blake is a black man who is now recovering at a rehabilitation center after being shot several times in the back by a police officer.So, what can fans expect in the 2021 season?“My sense is there will be some sort of return to normalcy. That those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And I understand those people who are saying ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,’” Silver said.As for when the next season will start, Silver says everyone with the league needs a rest, mentally and physically, and they don’t have an exact start date at this time. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a man who reportedly robbed a US Bank in El Cajon Monday. According to the FBI, the incident happened just after 3 p.m. at the US Bank on the 2700 block of Navajo Road. The robber reportedly approached a teller and made a verbal demand for money. After receiving the cash, the man fled the scene on foot. The robber is described as a white or Hispanic man with olive skin and grey hair who is believed to be in his 30s or 40s. He’s also six feet, one inch tall with a thin build. The man was last seen wearing a grey and white “trucker style” hat, long sleeved grey sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans. DIVIDE COUNTY, N.D. – A tight-knit community in North Dakota is proving that neighbors can still take care of one another.Tabitha Unhjem told The Washington Post that her father, Lane, was driving his combine harvester across his field of durum wheat, when the machine caught fire and the 57-year-old man went into cardiac arrest while trying to put it out.Lane was airlifted to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition, CBS News reports.Meanwhile, fellow farmers in Divide County soon heard what happened to Lane and halted their own harvesting, so they could help.The Post reports that nearly 60 neighbors showed up with their machinery on Sept. 12 to finish Lane’s harvest for him.By dividing and conquering, the neighbors harvested about 1,000 acres of wheat and canola in the span of nearly eight hours, The Post reports.One of the neighbors, Brad Sparks, told The Post that it would have taken Lane about two weeks to complete it on his own. 968

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three people were taken to the hospital after an altercation led to a stabbing in El Cajon on New Year’s Eve. According to police, the stabbing happened around 10:15 p.m. on the 1200 block of El Cajon Boulevard near the Roadway Inn and Suites. Police say a group of people got into a fight when three victims were stabbed. Several people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. EL CAJON, Calif., (KGTV)-- San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) unveiled their new line of firefighting tools Wednesday afternoon, including a helicopter and a new tactical command vehicle. A little spark can transform into a violent rage. That is the fear and reality of a wildfire. "Californians were devastated and had the most destructive and deadliest wildfire season last year," SDGE Chief Operating Officer, Caroline Winn said. In 2018, there were 8,000 fires in the state that scorched more than one million acres. While no one can predict mother nature, SDGE says they are more prepared than ever. Meet Bruce Pulgencio's newest ride, the UH-60 Blackhawk. The aircraft is SDGE's newest member of their fire fighting arsenal. It can reach up to 140 mph, carry 860 gallons of water, and fills up in only 45 seconds. "It will dip the bucket into the water and pull out then we will go to the fire and be able to release the water to the fire," pilot Bruce Pulgencio said. "We just keep rotating to dip site to drop site."The copter and the pilot share a similar story. The aircraft came from the Army Surplus. Pulgencio just retired from the Army National Guard. After their military careers, the two joined together to fight fires from the sky."it's like driving a smaller sports car and then driving a semi-truck," Pulgencio said. The semi-truck he is referring to is SDGE's premiere firefighting helicopter, the Erickson Aircrane. Its 2,650-gallon tank has been assisting San Diego fire agencies for a decade."It can get into smaller places," Pulgencio said about the new Blackhawk. "We all have our specialties, where they have their snorkels, and we have our bucket. It's just a different way to approach the water and to fight the fire."Since its debut in June, the Blackhawk has already proven its value. It flew over last week's Caliente fire in Otay Mesa. Surrounded by terrain that ground crews had a difficult time accessing, the brand new UH-60 Blackhawk dropped thousands of gallons of water atop the pallet yard. Also joining the team this season is the new SDGE Tactical command vehicle. The mobile electrical hub is a place where scientists can gather and send the latest weather mapping information to ground crews on the fire line."It allows our teams to deploy quickly, and we can establish full internet and satellite phone capabilities in any location," Winn said.
