Barbie dolls have long inspired young girls with their beauty and fashion sense. Now they're inspiring them with their brains and bravado, too.On Tuesday, just ahead of International Women's Day, Barbie introduced a batch of new dolls based on real-life figures.The new dolls came after Mattel, maker of Barbie, conducted a survey of 8,000 mothers around the globe and found that 86% are worried about the kind of role models their daughters are exposed to."Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real life role models to remind them that they can be anything," wrote Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and general manager of Barbie, in a news release.This week Mattel introduced dolls in two separate series of Barbies: "Inspiring Women," based on historical figures, and new additions to its "Shero" line of dolls named for inspirational contemporary women.Both lines reflect the Barbie brand's highest honor: a one-of-a-kind doll made in a real woman's likeness.Inspiring WomenThe "Inspiring Women" dolls come with educational information about the contributions each woman made to society.One is Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Frida Kahlo, the renowned Mexican artist and activist, will be another.Barbie will also honor Katherine Johnson, a pioneer in mathematics who broke barriers of race and gender. One of the characters in the hit movie "Hidden Figures," Johnson was among a pool of women hired by NASA to work as human "computers" for the first US-manned flight into space.Although the "Inspiring Women" series only has three dolls so far, it will grow with the release of new dolls, said Marissa Beck, spokeswoman for Mattel."The Inspiring Women Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules, and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before," Beck wrote in an email to CNN.SheroesBarbie's "Shero" program began in 2015 to highlight real women who have broken boundaries in their field.This week, Barbie released 14 new Shero dolls, including ones based on "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins and US snowboarder Chloe Kim, who just won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang. BOSTON (AP) — A California real estate developer was sentenced Friday to one month in prison for paying ,000 to cheat on his daughter's college entrance exam.Robert Flaxman, 63, of Los Angeles, was sentenced in Boston's federal court after pleading guilty in May to a single count of fraud and conspiracy. He is the 10th parent to be sentenced in a widespread college bribery scheme.Authorities say Flaxman paid ,000 to have a test proctor feed his daughter answers on her ACT exam in 2016. She scored a 28 out of 36 on the test, placing her in the 89th percentile and improving 4 points over her previous score on the exam.RELATED: Father linked to University of San Diego pleads guilty in college admissions scandalFlaxman's daughter used the score to apply to several schools, including the University of San Diego, and ultimately enrolled at one of them, prosecutors said. They did not identify where she goes to college but said the school suspended her for a semester when the scheme was uncovered.In earlier court documents, the FBI also accused Flaxman of paying an admissions consultant 0,000 to fabricate application documents that were used to get his son into USD. Those allegations were not pursued, however, and they weren't included in Flaxman's plea agreement with prosecutors.Flaxman's lawyers say he agreed to the testing scheme because his daughter's test scores were too low to get into college. (AP) — An egg has been laid in a nest shared by two bald eagles in Southern California and nature lovers will anxiously watch for the hatching via an online live feed .U.S. Forest Service biologist Robin Eliason said Wednesday that the parents will share incubation duties for the next month or so. Eliason expects the hatchling will arrive in early April.The video feed shows an eagle nestling on the egg Thursday as strong, cold winds blow through the San Bernardino National Forest. A count completed late last year found 11 bald eagles living in the forest east of Los Angeles.The Institute for Wildlife Studies web page has thousands of comments from people watching the feed. BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Berkeley’s first-in-the-nation ban on natural gas in new construction may end up eroding the region’s reputation for fine and creative dining, according to a California trade association suing the city on behalf of restaurants.In its lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court for Northern California, the California Restaurant Association argues that Berkeley bypassed state and federal regulations when it approved the ban.And while the ban currently applies only to some new construction, the association worries that it could be the start of efforts to outlaw or restrict the use of natural gas in existing structures.The trade group says such a move would harm restaurants that rely on gas “for cooking particular types of food, whether it be flame-seared meats, charred vegetables, or the use of intense heat from a flame under a wok,” according to the lawsuit.“Indeed, restaurants specializing in international foods so prized in the Bay Area will be unable to prepare many of their specialties without natural gas,” the lawsuit states.Berkeley approved its legislation in July to cheers from environmentalists. It goes into effect Jan. 1. Other cities are considering similar legislation to go electric to fight global warming.Professional chef Robert W.
