For two minutes, people and traffic in Israel today paused to remember the estimated 6 million lives lost during the Holocaust.The Times of Israel reports that at 10 a.m. local time, nationwide sirens blared as a day of remembrance began. It also shared this video to Facebook: The Holocaust was a genocide during World War II in which millions of European Jews were killed by Nazi Germany led by Adolf Hitler, between 1941 and 1945.Beginning in the early 1930s, the German government passed laws to exclude Jews from civil society. Many were moved to concentration camps, ghettos and detention sites.A new survey found that Americans are beginning to lack basic knowledge about the Holocaust.The survey found that nearly half of all Americans — 41 percent — couldn't identify Auschwitz, a concentration camp where an estimated 1.1 million Jews and minorities were killed at the hands of Nazis during World War II. Among millennials, that number rose to 66 percent.The survey also found that a significant portion of Americans don't understand the scale of the Holocaust. For the first time since the Camp Fire started its deadly rampage 11 days ago, firefighters will get a big assist from rain.The 4 to 6 inches expected later this week will help suppress an inferno that has already killed at least 77 people. It'll also finally improve the heavily polluted and unhealthy air smothering Northern California.But there's a catch: With more than 150,000 acres of newly scorched earth, there's little vegetation to soak up the rain.That means the region is now at risk of mudslides, which could be especially dangerous for firefighters battling the inferno."They're having to fight this fire right now in the mountainous areas -- the ravines, the canyons, very steep, rugged terrain," said Scott McLean, deputy chief for Cal Fire -- the state's forestry and fire protection agency."They're back there on dirt roads, dirt trails, trying to fight this fire. Now it's going to turn into mud, which will be another hazard for them to contend with."Along with mudslides comes the risk of debris flow gushing from the Camp Fire's charred rubble."Recently burned areas could see ash flow ... and even have the potential for debris flow if rain intensity is high enough," the National Weather Service's Sacramento office said.Since the Camp Fire broke out November 8, it's destroyed more than 10,500 homes and torched an area the size of Chicago.Even worse: Fire officials predict the Camp Fire is only halfway done burning. FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WCPO) -- A firefighter in Franklin Township, Ohio who posted a racial slur on his Facebook page saying he'd save a dog over a black person has resigned, according to The Journal-News.Tyler Roysdon submitted his resignation late Monday night, township officials told the newspaper, after his racially charged comment got him suspended on Sept. 12.Roysdon’s since-deleted Facebook post has made national news. He purportedly stated that, given the choice, he would save a dog before a black person -- posting “one dog is worth a million” and then using the N-word.Before his resignation, Middletown NAACP chapter president Dora Bronston called for Roysdon to be fired, saying a firefighter's job is "to be there for every person that calls on your help.""This person is 20 years old - apparently not mature enough to be a firefighter," Bronston said. "We trust those people with our lives to protect us, to keep us safe our families safe, and we don't want them to put us in harm's way."Without authority to fire Roysdon, Township Fire Chief Steve Bishop had placed Roysdon on indefinite suspension pending a disciplinary hearing. Township trustees had scheduled a disciplinary hearing for Roysdon for Sept. 27. 1297
