A well-known winery resembling a stone French chateau in Napa County is destroyed as the Glass Fire rips through Northern California wine country.Images show the Chateau Boswell engulfed in bright orange fire as firefighters try to battle flames. It is a private family-owned winery established in 1979.The Glass Fire rapidly grew Sunday from a small 20-acre fire to more than 11,000 acres. More than 50,000 people were told to get out in overnight evacuation orders. The Adventist Health St. Helena hospital suspended care and transferred all patients elsewhere.Other popular tourist destinations in St. Helena and around the Napa Valley have been destroyed or are in danger from the Glass Fire.Dry and windy conditions over the weekend, combined with a heat wave prompted a red flag warning in areas of California. CALFIRE says two other fires, the Boysen Fire and the Shady Fire, also sparked Sunday in the same area as the Glass Fire.Tens of thousands of people are evacuated throughout Napa and Sonoma counties, officials say. 1038

About 2.5 million more working-age Americans were uninsured last year, even before the coronavirus pandemic struck, according to a government report issued Wednesday. The study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 14.5% of adults ages 18 to 64 were uninsured in 2019, a statistically significant increase from 2018, when 13.3% lacked coverage. The increase in the uninsured rate came even as the economy was chugging along in an extended period of low unemployment. The findings suggest that even during good times, the U.S. was losing ground on coverage gains from the Obama-era health care overhaul.Health insurance coverage has eroded under President Donald Trump, who is still trying to overturn the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare.” By contrast, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden wants to expand the ACA and add a new public plan in a push to eventually cover all Americans. The new numbers come from the CDC’s National Health Interview Survey, which is considered one of the government’s most authoritative reports. Lack of affordable coverage was the top reason given for being uninsured, cited by nearly 3 out of 4 surveyed. In 2018, 26.3 million adults ages 18 to 64 were uninsured. Last year, that number rose to 28.8 million, CDC said. The situation has only worsened since COVID-19 began to spread in the U.S. early this year, forcing a sudden economic shutdown that left millions out of work. How much worse is not yet known, because government surveys like the CDC’s have a significant lag time.Initial estimates from private experts that suggested more than 25 million people could have become uninsured due to pandemic job losses appear to have been too high.More recent estimates suggest there are 5 million to 10 million newly uninsured. In the midst of a pandemic, that would still represent a sharp increase in the number of people who may face problems getting medical attention. Uninsured people often postpone going to see a doctor until their symptoms become severe.Experts say there could be several reasons why coverage losses due to the pandemic have not been as deep as initial feared, including people switching to a spouse’s plan and more people qualifying for Medicaid or for an ACA “special enrollment period.”The Trump administration has resisted calls to fully open the ACA insurance markets during the ongoing public health emergency. The CDC report found that adults who were uninsured last year because coverage was not affordable were more likely to be in poor health, a group that’s at higher risk of serious complications from COVID-19. Uninsured women were more likely to cite affordability problems than men, and those 50 and older were also more likely than the group under 30 to report a financial hardship. 2792

Alexandra Canosa, an associate producer on the Netflix series "Marco Polo," has filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court alleging Harvey Weinstein raped, physically assaulted and verbally abused her over the course of five years.Weinstein "constantly threatened" Canosa and "made it clear that if she did not succumb to his demands for sexual contact or if she exposed his unwanted conduct there would be retaliation, including humiliation, the loss of her job and loss of any ability to work in the entertainment business," court documents allege. The lawsuit claims the former film executive insisted on meeting with Canosa in "isolated environments" and demanded sex. "Marco Polo" was produced by the Weinstein Company and debuted in 2014.Weinstein attorney Phyllis Kupferstein issued the following comment Tuesday to CNN:"Ali Canosa was a friend who had worked for The Weinstein Company for 10 years, traveled the world for the company and held several influential roles; overseeing many projects throughout the years. From someone who has been thought of as a good friend, involved only in a consensual relationship, these claims are not only mystifying to Mr. Weinstein, but deeply upsetting, and they cannot be supported by the facts."CNN received two updates within an hour of the statement. The second had no mention of a "consensual relationship" between Weinstein and Canosa. The Weinstein team had "no additional comment" in regards to the changes in the statements.Canosa alleged in Monday's amended lawsuit that Weinstein sexually assaulted her multiple times between 2010 and 2015.Canosa says she was sexually assaulted in a New York hotel room, "sexually assaulted, verbally assaulted, bullied and intimidated multiple times" in Los Angeles, "sexually assaulted and raped" in Malaysia, and "physically assaulted and verbally abused" inside Weinstein's room in Budapest. In August 2017, Canosa alleges, Weinstein verbally threatened her "not to speak to anyone about his abuse."In addition to Weinstein, the lawsuit lists The Weinstein Company, LLC, The Weinstein Company Holdings, LLC, Robert Weinstein -- Harvey's brother and co-founder of The Weinstein Company -- and nine other individuals associated with the Weinstein brand as defendants.Defendants "knew or should have known" about Weinstein's conduct, and didn't correct it. Instead, they "facilitated, hid, and supported" him, the complaint outlines. The Weinstein Company, LLC, and The Weinstein Company Holdings, LLC, were aware of Weinstein's history of sexual misconduct and facilitated his conduct by arranging meetings in hotel rooms and paying off sexual misconduct claims without corrective actions, according to the court filing. The companies had notice of Weinstein's actions against Canosa and other women, but failed to investigate further or "take reasonable steps" to do anything about them, the lawsuit alleges.Individuals who complained to the companies' human resources department for similar situations to what Canosa alleges "were subject to retaliation by Harvey Weinstein as a result of their complaints," the lawsuit says, adding that the failure to investigate claims of misconduct shielded Weinstein from consequences and enabled him to continue victimizing employees.CNN has reached out to Robert Weinstein's representatives for comment."The members of the board, including myself, did not know the extent of my brother's actions," he told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2017.Netflix declined to comment on the lawsuit.  3534

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - The Alpine Union School District has become one of the first local school districts to begin mandatory testing for all staff members. In partnership with Cal Fire, the pre-K to 8 school district rolled out drive-thru COVID-19 testing on Wednesday."The number that came out was beyond what we expected. It was a steady flow of staff all day long," said District Superintendent Rich Newman. So far, 65% of all staff -- about 130 employees -- have gotten a test, with results due back within two to five days."We’ve gone one step beyond most districts," said Newman.Newman says while the state requires districts test half their staff every month during in-person learning, his school district expects to test all of its staff every month. The drive-thru testing events will be held every two weeks."We want to make sure we can stay open for our students," said Newman. The testing is one component of a detailed in-school learning plan, which includes plexiglass dividers on every student desk and a thorough cleaning regimen."I had a meeting with the principals and it was very emotional, because they felt all the hard work paid off," said Newman. As for the testing, Newman says the response from parents and staff has been positive."The number one response from staff has been 'Thank you for setting this up quickly,'" said Newman.Newman hopes the testing track down asymptomatic cases and provide some peace of mind."If our staff feels safe, healthy, and taken care of, they can focus on teaching and learning with our students," said Newman.Newman says each class has assigned restrooms and outdoor spaces that will help officials with tracing if an outbreak should develop. 1706

A week out from Election Day, spending to influence congressional midterm elections already has surged to a record-smashing .7 billion, according to a new tally of activity by candidates, political parties and their outside allies.Democratic donors are fueling the dramatic increase, according to the analysis by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. It predicts spending will surpass .2 billion by November 6 -- a 35% jump over the 2014 midterms and the largest leap in at least two decades. In all, Democratic House candidates have raised more than 1 million, far exceeding the 7 million that went to their Republican rivals, according to the center's tally. 688
