LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Virgin Hyperloop says it made history on Sunday by testing human travel in one of its hyperloop pods for the first time.The company says its two-person pod traveled 107 mph on its 500-meter DevLoop test site in Las Vegas, where more than 400 unoccupied tests have been run before.The first two people to ride in the new form of transportation were one of the company’s co-founders, Josh Giegel, and its director of passenger experience, Sara Luchian.The occupants made the maiden voyage on the newly unveiled XP-2 vehicle, which Virgin says was custom-built with safety and comfort in mind.Virgin says its vehicles glide using no-contact electromagnetic levitation through a vacuum environment that reduces air pressure down to the equivilanet of 200,000 ft. above sea level. LA MESA, CA (KGTV) — Parents of children in an East County school district were looking forward to their kids returning to campus at the end of this month, but that might not happen.Students in the La Mesa-Spring Valley District are scheduled to return Nov. 30, but if San Diego County's COVID-19 cases push the county back to the most restrictive purple tier, that will not happen.Meg Jacobsen is the executive director of the district's education services. Her seven-year-old daughter is also a student in the district."My daughter loves to go to virtual school, but being on a zoom all day can be hard for students, especially little ones," said Jacobsen.Under the state's health mandate, schools that are already open in some capacity would not be affected by moving back a tier, but schools that are closed would not be able to open."If schools have opened for in-person learning, then they can continue with what they are doing. At some schools, where they may have opened several grade levels, say they opened K-3, and they planned to continue adding grade levels, those schools would be able to continue doing that," said Bob Mueller, program specialist at the San Diego County Office of Education.The mandate applies to individual school sites."In other places, where you might have one school in a school district opened and other schools not, those schools would be frozen," said Mueller.Jacobsen is hoping the county's number of COVID-19 cases goes down."This has been a rocky road the past six months for us. As of Friday night the fire was 19,107 acres and 10 percent contained. The smoke blackened the sky and ash rained down in clumps, making it difficult to breathe. LEMON GROVE (KGTV) - Fire crews snuffed out a brush fire near Imperial Avenue and San Altos Place in Lemon Grove Sunday evening. Heartland Fire said the blaze started shortly after 5 p.m. when a palm tree caught fire near trolley tracks. Trolley service was disrupted near the Massachusetts Avenue station and busses were used to transport passengers.The fire threatened about 20 homes, and no one was evacuated. Some power lines were damaged, along with railroad ties to the trolley. The fire also damaged a residential fence and the eaves of a few homes.Nobody was injured in the fire, which was contained in about 40 minutes by several fire crews, including a water-dropping helicopter.The San Diego Sheriff's Bomb and Arson Unit is investigating the cause of the fire. 815
