This year has certainly been the year of comfortable clothing as coronavirus pandemic lockdowns and safety precautions meant millions of Americans are spending more time at home. Fashion Week collections this fall have featured comfortable fabrics and elastic waistbands.Justin Bieber is getting into the trend with his new collection of Crocs. The singer shared images on his Instagram account showing off the new partnership, including one of himself cutting into a cake shaped like the iconic rubber shoe."As an artist, it's important that my creations stay true to myself and my style. I wear Crocs all the time, so designing my own pair came naturally," Bieber said in a statement. 694

There’s a growing problem you need to consider if you're thinking about buying a new home security system.Alarm systems for your home are becoming more affordable and available to everyone. But a recent report made by the Consumer Federation of America says that scary sales tactics and false claims are allowing companies to take your money right from in front of you, and the problem is growing across the country. While burglaries in the country are down by nearly 5 percent, the amount of alarm systems is expected to be up 30 percent by 2020."They're starting to see these alarming practices of companies using scare tactics, other kinds of misrepresentations and also failing to really make clear to consumers how much their services are going to cost," says Susan Grant, director of consumer protection and privacy at Consumer Federation of America. The report found companies tried instilling fear in people in order to get them to purchase their system.Other methods used are a little more subtle, but they can be just as deceiving. The report found that companies were often pressuring consumers into deals that were too good to be true."No deal is too good to pass up,” says Grant. “If the deal is good today, it's going to be good tomorrow."There are ways you can protect yourself. Grant says it's best to do your research; never sign anything on the spot. Also, avoid digital contracts that require you to sign on a phone or tab. You should ask for a copy of what you are signing."You want to shop around and see what the costs are of other companies and compare their reputations as well," suggests Grant.Checking the company’s reviews on the Better Business Bureau is a good place to start when choosing the right company.  1749

TIJUANA, Mexico. (KGTV) -- The female passenger of the truck that plowed into a row of street vendors and vehicles waiting to cross the Mexican-U.S. border Monday afternoon says she and the driver were fleeing an attack before the chaotic scene broke out. Summer Draper, who was injured during the incident and is being treated at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, says she and her boyfriend were visiting Tijuana from Utah when the incident occurred.Draper tells 10News the couple went to Tijuana to shop when their truck was allegedly attacked while asking for directions. RELATED: Tijuana crash suspect drove on suspended license“If we would have stopped the car we would have been dead. We had to run from these people they were attacking us,” Draper said. Draper says the pair didn’t make it to the shops, but instead, tried to reroute to the Costco back by the border. That’s when she says they asked for help. “They said the only way they'd be able to help is if he drove.”Draper says her boyfriend Frank Stricker, 29, was driving and, while he was hesitant, gave in and let the man help. “Instead of going left to Costco he’s going right,” Draper said, adding that’s when her boyfriend started yelling for the man to pull over. “In two seconds the guy pulls over the car and there’s a cop.”Draper remembers hearing gunfire before she says Stricker hit the gas to get away. Minutes later, she says they reached the border, but while stopped in the lanes, they were attacked. RELATED: Witness to U.S.-Mexico border crash describes chaos in TijuanaShe says that’s when her boyfriend rammed their truck through the crowd in an attempt to escape, adding that a row of vendor carts offered the only evacuation route. Draper says the couple were shot at and their tires slashed. Images from the scene show their truck stopped in a mangled mess while a few dozen people surround the vehicle. One video shows Stricker lying on top of a bloodied Draper outside the truck, seemingly to protect her from the crowd. After the crash, Draper was taken to the hospital where she claims to have been tortured. “They tortured, they laughed at me they had everyone taking pictures of me they seriously did all of this with no medicine I mean I felt everything,” she said. According to Draper, she spent the night at the hospital before being brought to the U.S. for further treatment. Stricker is currently in the custody of Mexican authorities and is facing attempted homicide charges. Videos and images from the incident show that Stricker also suffered injuries, his condition is unknown at this time.According to court documents from Utah, Stricker has drug charges extending back to 2008, including possession or use of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Mexican law officials are continuing to investigate the incident and have not yet released details.Tijuana news station Televisa reported the truck struck over a dozen vehicles waiting to cross into the U.S. and ran down least four people, including one person who suffered severe injuries.RELATED: Truck with Utah plates strikes vendors, other cars at U.S.-Mexico borderPolice and fire crews closed down traffic at the border for about 20 minutes. When the situation cleared, northbound traffic into the U.S. was consolidated to two lanes. 3336

Three Democratic senators on Monday filed a lawsuit challenging the appointment of acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, ratcheting up the court effort to declare his placement atop the Justice Department as unconstitutional.Sens. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Mazie Hirono of Hawaii filed the suit in US District Court on Monday, represented by the progressive public interest groups Protect Democracy and the Constitutional Accountability Center."The stakes are too high to allow the president to install an unconfirmed lackey to lead the Department of Justice — a lackey whose stated purpose, apparently, is undermining a major investigation into the president," Whitehouse said in a statement. The lawsuit is only the latest challenge to Whitaker's appointment to replace Jeff Sessions after President Donald Trump fired his attorney general the day after the election.Whitaker has come under fire from Democrats and others because he was a vocal critic of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation before joining the Justice Department. He was serving as Sessions' chief of staff before Sessions was ousted, and has not gone through the Senate confirmation process in that role. His appointment leap-frogged Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, which also gave Whitaker control over the Mueller investigation that had previously been supervised by Rosenstein.Democrats had previously urged Whitaker to recuse himself from supervising the Mueller investigation, in addition to questioning the constitutionality of his appointment.Last week, the Justice Department issued a memo defending Whitaker's appointment, concluding that it was legally justified under the Vacancies Reform Act because it's a temporary appointment and "he had been serving in the Department of Justice at a sufficiently senior pay level for over a year."The Senate Democrats' lawsuit, however, argues that his appointment is unconstitutional under the Constitution's Appointments Clause requiring Senate confirmation of high-level federal appointees. In addition to the lawsuit filed Monday, Maryland's attorney general filed suit last week asking a federal judge to replace Whitaker with Rosenstein. Attorney Tom Goldstein, who is representing Maryland in that case, also filed a separate motion asking the Supreme Court to declare Rosenstein as acting attorney general.Whitaker has also come under scrutiny from House Democrats, who will take control of the chamber in January. Four expected committee chairmen sent letters to Whitaker and others asking for information about Whitaker's involvement in a company shuttered by the Federal Trade Commission, declaring they plan to investigate the matter next year.Trump said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday" that "it's going to be up to him" when asked if he would accept attempts by Whitaker to curtail the Mueller investigation. 2918

This year has brought a lot of changes for everyone and there could be a chance that those changes could translate to savings on your insurance policies.Bankrate is encouraging people with home and car insurance to take a fresh look at their policies.“You could save anywhere from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, but it is going to depend on location, it is going to depend on your lifestyle, and how it has changed vs the past. So, it is worth comparing and really kicking the tires on various insurance policies from different companies,” said Stephen Kates, Insurance Analyst at Bankrate. There are several lifestyle changes that could have happened this year. Many people took on home improvement projects during this pandemic. Some of those may have included adding safety features to our home, which can help save money on home insurance.A lot of Americans are also driving a lot less now, which can help with car insurance.“If you're working from home, like a lot of us, you're probably driving significantly less than you used to and that's something you can bring up to your insurance carrier because that can significantly reduce the amount you pay for your premium,” said Kates.Insurance policies haven't necessarily changed, but the way insurance companies look at lifestyle changes may have changed, so it's worth checking in on your policies. Experts at Bankrate suggest doing so at least once a year. 1429
