SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Google on Monday added a highly-anticipated service to its Google+ social network, allowing businesses and brands to set up their own pages on the site.Named "Google+ Page," the service is a further challenge to its rival Facebook's fan pages, which has become a major promotion strategy for many business brands over the past several years.Unlike Facebook, Google will not charge businesses and organizations for using the scheme, and will not put ads on the pages. The service is expected to enhance the tech giant's other businesses like search and mobile advertising.Some big brand names, such as Burberry, the Barcelona football club and the Muppets, have already set up their pages.Google noted it will not pass on personal data.In addition to big brands, Google also wants small businesses that have or do not have their own websites to use Google+ Pages as their default presences.According to a report by Ad Age Digital, Google+ Pages will soon be location-aware, allowing local businesses to send offers and deals to mobile phones.According to Google, more than 40 million people have opened an account with its social network, which was launched in June. BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's first space lab module were in good condition and all tests went on "smoothly" during the past week, according to a statement issued by the country's space project authorities Thursday.The unmanned module, Tiangong-1, or Heavenly Palace-1, blasted off on Sept. 29 from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's desert area.Tiangong-1 switched to the orbit of 362 kilometers high and had orbited the Earth for 109 times by 6:00 p.m. Thursday, the statement said.Tests on the module's remote control system, video/audio equipments, temperature/humidity sensors, docking facilities and other functions had been conducted successfully, it added.It also revealed that the Jiuquan Launch Center and other units were preparing for the launch of the Shenzhou-8 unmanned spacecraft, which is scheduled to join the Tiangong-1 later this year.Shenzhou-8 and Tiangong-1 are expected to perform China's first space docking at a height of 340 kilometers above the earth's surface.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The listed arm of China's biggest train maker, China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry (Group) Corporation (CSR), has been allowed by regulatory authorities to raise 9 billion yuan (1.41 billion U.S. dollars) on the stock market, the company said Wednesday.The Hong Kong- and Shanghai- listed CSR Corp. Ltd. will sell 1.96 billion shares at 4.46 yuan apiece to select investors, it said. But CSR's parent -- state-owned CSR Group -- has agreed to buy no less than 6 billion yuan's worth of the shares, leaving the rest to institutional investors.CSR's net profit growth in the third quarter of 2011 plunged to 9.66 percent year-on-year from a high of 85.08 percent in the first half of 2011 as the country put the brakes on development of the railway sector after a deadly bullet train crash on July 23 that killed 40 people and injured 210 others.The decision to slow the development of high-speed rail lines has led to halts in construction of about 90 percent of ongoing railway projects, or 10,000 km of rail lines across the country, local media reported earlier.CSR is the maker of the bullet trains involved in last July's deadly collision. NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- For the 34-year-old Alexis Steinman, Oct. 3 would have been a great day, because her father Ralph Steinman was announced winner of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.But as she talked to Xinhua at the Rockefeller University where his father worked, she said the day was rather "bittersweet"."This is the moment, but my Dad was not here," said Alexis, trying to hold her tears.The Canadian-born cell biologist Ralph Steinman died of pancreatic cancer on Friday at the age of 68, three days before he was announced the joint winner along with Prof. Bruce Beutler and Prof. Jules Hoffman for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine."We even talked about the Nobel Prize days before his death," Alexis added."We were like 'OK Dad, I know things aren't going well but the Nobel, they are going to announce it next Monday'. And he was like 'I know I have got to hold out for that. They don't give it to you if you have passed away,'" she said."It's really impossible to describe how our family is feeling right now. We're devastated to have lost Ralph,"Steinman' s son Adam Steinman told reporters at the press conference at Rockefeller University. "We're so incredibly proud of Dad for receiving this wonderful honor ...
