SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Rancho Penasquitos man says on Sunday morning he walked outside to discover someone had broken into most of the mailboxes on his street. He added that even mailboxes that had locks had been pried open and left empty.“I woke up this morning to pick up my newspaper and I noticed every mailbox up and down the street and adjacent streets I could see had been opened and all the mail had been removed,” he said. The neighbor asked ABC 10News not to be identified.He said he’s lived in the area for about 10 years and it’s generally quiet. They had one incident a few years ago where mail was stolen around tax return season. He’s concerned about this theft because of the looming November election.“I kinda felt it might’ve had something to do with stealing the ballots,” he said.He said both he and his next door neighbor had received their ballots in the days immediately before the theft. Other neighbors in the area also said they already got their ballots in the mail, but the incident is a reminder to be extra cautious with important voting documents moving through the postal system.“Personally, I’ve never been a victim of crime here, or do I know anybody that’s been a victim of crime here, so it’s something that’s concerning,” he said.The neighbor added that he did email the registrar’s office to let them know of the possibility of stolen ballots in his neighborhood. 1407

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A piece of Hollywood has made its way to the USS Midway Museum. Thursday crews worked to move a large movie prop onto the deck of the famed vessel: A replica of the TBD Devastator that was used in the movie “Midway." “It’s the only Devastator on display in the world,” says Walt Loftus, Air Wing Director at the USS Midway Museum. “All the rest of them are at the bottom of the ocean.”RELATED: Top Gun 2 plane driven through Coronado streetsThe plane is a replica of the carriers that sailors used at war. The giant plane was a prop used in the upcoming film, starring Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, and Nick Jonas. It's designed with “big square tubing with foam made into the shape of the devastator,” says Loftus. “But it's the actual size that the Devastator was.”"Midway" follows the story of U.S. Navy sailors and aviators who persevered through the Battle of Midway in 1942. It was only six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Pacific Beach business owner is responding to a viral video of a worker's violent confrontation with a homeless man this week.The owner of B-Mo's Sandwich Shop, identified as Marc L., posted a message to Facebook in response to the video, which shows an employee push a table into a shirtless man's head, then begin throwing his belongings into the street.The note read in part that while he is apologetic for the events that occurred, "this person has been rather malicious to our community for over a year now."RELATED: Violent confrontation between Pacific Beach worker, homeless man caught on tape"Let me reiterate, this is no excuse for the choices and actions of our employee. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge ruled Wednesday that a Navy commander will face a third trial on charges he tried to rape a junior officer in her home.John Michael Neuhart II asked the judge to dismiss all charges after a second jury was unable to reach a verdict.The judge dismissed charges of assault with intent to commit rape during burglary, burglary and resisting or delaying a peace officer.RELATED: Mistrial declared for former Navy commander accused of rapeThe judge added that prosecutors can proceed with a third trial in January on charges of attempted forcible rape and assault with intent to commit rape.Neuhart now faces six years behind bars and lifetime sex offender registration if found guilty. Neuhart had previously been facing life in prison.In the two trials combined, 21 out of 24 jurors voted to convict Neuhart.
