SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Chollas View elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday after reports of an armed man nearby.San Diego Police were called to the area of 45th and Market streets at about 9:30 a.m. over the reported suspect. Chollas-Mead Elementary School was placed on lockdown as police searched the area.Officers arrested an armed man at the scene and were searching for a second suspect who fled the scene, believed to possibly be armed as well, police said.Chollas-Mead Elementary's lockdown was lifted as of 11 a.m. while police continued their search.The outstanding suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall black man, in his 20s, last seen wearing a black shirt and light blue pants, SDPD told City News Service. 736

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Carlsbad animal rescue is holding a very special baby shower in preparation of an influx of baby animals this spring.From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Rancho Coastal Humane Society's San Diego Wildlife Center (SDWC) will collect donations for cottontail rabbits, squirrels, hawks, raccoons, owls, and other wildlife.“Wildlife babies are really difficult for humans to raise. Baby rabbits are extremely hard to raise away from their mother. Mothers leave the nest alone all day and only come to feed at dawn and dusk," Trish Jackman, SDWC's director, said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A “rolling altercation” between two drivers in the Bonita area led to the stabbing death of one man and the detention of another. Chula Vista police Capt. Phil Collum told 10News the incident was reported just after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Sweetwater Road and Willow Street, near the Chula Vista Golf Course.Collum said officers that responded to the incident arrived to find an unidentified man lying on the ground with stab wounds. Life-saving measures were administered before he was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital. The man died from his injuries upon arrival, according to Collum.The other man, 60-year-old Rickey Smith, remained at the scene. Officers said they found a folding-blade knife, believed to be the weapon, on Smith's belt. He surrendered without incident, police said.Collum said witnesses reported the drivers of a white Ford Ranger pickup and silver Nissan Quest minivan yelling at each other before colliding. Smith left his truck and stabbed the victim, who was still in his minivan, police said. No other parties were involved, Collum told 10News. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and ABC) - Fishermen had a close encounter with killer whales off the San Diego coast that was caught on camera. The group was on a 21-foot boat looking for yellowtail when they came across the orcas. "Out of nowhere, one of them popped up right next to the boat 3 or 4 feet away from me…landed, splashed me, and splashed the whole side of the boat. I screamed,” witness Nathan Benge told Good Morning America. One of the killer whales had a playful interaction, performing a belly roll beneath the surface of the boat’s wake, GMA reported.
