(CNN) -- Sugar might be falling out of favor, but it's the centerpiece of a makeover of Krispy Kreme that includes a new menu and its first store redesign in a decade.The doughnut company, founded 82 years ago, debuted a new location Tuesday in North Carolina that showcases Krispy Kreme's new, extra-sweet menu. It features concoctions like doughnut-infused ice cream, milkshakes and a customizable toppings bar for the glazed doughnuts.The makeover follows rival Dunkin's debut of a modernized store and new menu items, like breakfast bowls, in a bid to attract more people. The expansion has worked and sales jumped 2.4% for the first quarter of this year.The new Krispy Kreme store, which is a half hour east of Charlotte, is framed with a "stylistic wink" to its logo on the exterior. The interior has digital menu boards and an "enhanced doughnut theater experience" that shows how the doughnuts are made and glazed on a conveyer belt.The menu is revamped. One of the new items is "scoop sandwiches," a layer of ice cream with doughnuts in it, served between a sliced doughnut that can be topped with a variety of items, like vanilla, or chocolate. New milkshakes made from the doughnut ice cream can be topped, of course, with doughnuts, as well as toppings like Oreo bits.The doughnuts themselves are getting an upgrade; customers will have the option to add five different glazes and ten toppings.The company said the design is coming at a time of growth for the once-struggling chain. It plans to open 450 shops globally by the end of 2022. Of those, 45 new shops will be in the United States within the next year.Krispy Kreme will also remodel its 350 stores in the United States. But each store might not be as elaborate as its North Carolina store because menu items and store features will vary depending on location and store size.Krispy Kreme is building a new location in New York's Times Square. It will be open 24 hours a day and include a glaze waterfall. It's scheduled to open early next year.The doughnut chain went private in 2016 when JAB Holdings bought it for .35 billion. (CNN) -- Police in Tennessee arrested a man named Tupac A. Shakur, 40, after they say he pulled a knife on them and was found with methamphetamine.Officers with the Johnson City Police Department, about 25 minutes from Bristol, received calls Friday about Shakur who had active warrants for his arrest from another department, according to a news release from Johnson police.When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a car with Shakur inside. Officers attempted to arrest Shakur, but he pulled away and reached for his waistband, the release said.Shakur then turned toward officers with a knife before officers took him down. Officers found a syringe and baggies of meth on Shakur, the release said.Shakur was charged with aggravated assault, simple meth possession and having unlawful drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a ,000 bond. He is set to be arraigned Monday, the release said.It was not clear Sunday whether Shakur has legal representation.Shakur shares the same name, even the same middle initial, as the late rapper Tupac Shakur who was killed in September 1996 at age 25. 1144

(KGTV) - A 5-year-old boy who was reported missing in Los Angeles Saturday night was found safe in San Diego.Police put out an alert Sunday for the public to help find Lorenzo Capriccio. He was reported missing by his mother Saturday evening after he was last seen at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.The boy¡¯s mother told police she thought Lorenzo might be in the San Diego area with a family member.Police said Monday afternoon that Lorenzo was found in San Diego County in good condition with a legal guardian.The circumstances that led to Lorenzo's disappearance were not immediately released. 611

(KGTV) - All evacuations and road closures have been lifted after a fire in Otay Mesa scorched hundreds of acres and tore through a pallet yard Thursday. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said in a tweet Thursday evening that crews would mop up the burn area overnight while checking for hot spots. No structures were lost in the blaze and no one injured. The fire, named the Caliente Fire, broke out about noon at Otay Mesa Road and Caliente Avenue. The San Diego Fire Department initially reported that crews stopped forward progress of the fire at around 3 p.m., but the blaze reignited moments later, eventually spreading to a pallet yard. According to fire crews, the pallet yard housed 80,000 pallets. Thick, black smoke could be seen flooding into the air from Moreno Pallets in Otay Mesa. Four helicopters, two fixed-wing aircraft, four strike teams and the original San Diego Fire first alarm team battled the blaze, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in Otay Mesa was also evacuated due to the blaze. According to a spokesperson with the college, San Diego Police entered the college and told everyone to evacuate immediately. All night classes at Southwestern were canceled.
