BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Wednesday said the country should step up efforts to promote the development of third-generation (3G) and domestically-developed TD-SCDMA technology.     Zhang urged accelerated construction of the 3G network, strengthened technological innovation and enhanced information security management, during a visit to the country's four major 3Goperators including Datang Telecom, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile.     Zhang said the 3G technology should be given full play to promote the informationization and upgrading of the traditional industries and boost the development of modern service industries. TAIPEI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou vowed Wednesday that he will push forward the reform of the Kuomintang (KMT) "at full speed" four days after he took the position of the party's chairman.     He said his aim of running for the chairman was to guarantee closer cooperation between the party and the administrative authorities to make the administrative work more effective.     Ma made the remarks Wednesday at the first conference for the Central Standing Committee of the KMT since he took the position.     Ma stressed that it is now a key period to strengthen the relations between the party and the administrative authorities as the island's economy is showing signs of revival.     During the conference, the party approved a decision to remove two officials from their newly-elected positions as the members of the KMT Central Standing Committee for being involved in vote-buying.

BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- China will, without any doubt, be able to achieve the 8 percent growth in gross domestic product (GDP) this year, a senior Chinese economist said Sunday.     Yao Jingyuan, chief economist with the National Bureau of Statistics, made the remarks at a fortune forum in Beijing.     However he warned that the Chinese economy will still face two major problems next year: slumping overseas market demand and weak driving force on domestic market.     Chinese economy rose 7.7 percent in the first three quarters, driven mainly by investment and consumption, but brought down by exports, Yao said.     He stressed more efforts should be made on structural adjustment to shift dependence on the industrial growth to the comprehensive development of the agricultural, industrial and service sectors.     Yao highlighted the importance to raise people's incomes, add investment on livelihood projects and give full play to the role of consumption to boost economy.     Meanwhile, China should turn its economic growth dependence from resources-intensive consumption to technology renovation, Yao said.

SANTIAGO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- China is a dynamo of the world economy and is playing a central role in helping a global economic recovery, said Alicia Barcena, executive secretary of the Economic Commission for the Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), on Friday.     "China is part of the world trade of wheat, rice, soya, sugar and others, playing a very important role in the increase of those product exports. The same happens in the case of the minerals and oil," Barcena told Xinhua in an interview.     He said China is one of the most important market for Latin American and the Caribbean products.     "China is being a blessing for the exports of raw materials from Latin America and the Caribbean. But it is also a great exporter (to the region). So, it competes with the countries of this region, mainly with Mexico and the Central American nations," said Barcena.     Trade between China and Latin America has grown tremendously, he noted.     He said Mexico, for example, is beginning to see China as a partner rather than a competitor.     Mexico has given priority to trade relations with China. As a result, the Asian country is now the fifth largest overseas market for Mexican products.     Meanwhile, South America has also improved ties with China.     "All producers see the opportunity of reaching the Chinese market," said Barcena.
