Lawmakers leading the confirmation hearing for President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs announced on Tuesday morning that the hearings will be delayed indefinitely, following allegations related to improper conduct in various stages of Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson's career.The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Johnny Isakson and the panel's top Democrat, Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, made the announcement on Capitol Hill. LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — A family is grief stricken after their elderly mother's wedding ring vanished last weekend.Daughter Leanne Farrell said she took her dad to urgent care Friday and then went to work. A nurse who cares for her parents noticed Saturday the ring was missing."There were about 4 people in and out [when] the ring disappeared and it wasn't easy to get off," she said.She doesn't believe her mother lost her ring. She said it's been on her hand for 61 years, only removed from her finger for a repair or the rare cleaning.She said they tore the house apart searching for the ring and found nothing."I can't be here 24/7 for them you know? Because I have to work and you hope the people that come in to care for them, care for them like you would," she said wiping away tears.The ring went missing just a day after her parent's 61st wedding anniversary. Her father, Ken Clody's, leg was amputated after a fall two years ago and recently had to change the hours caregivers come and go to ensure he and his wife are taken care of. He also suffers Primary Lateral Sclerosis, making it hard to communicate.Farrell explained her mother has dementia and sleeps most of the day, "she can't explain anything, she can't explain who took it, when they took it, because you can see she's not with us really much anymore."Her father said he bought the ring for 0, in 1957.Farrell described the ring as two white gold bands soldered together with three diamonds, the center just larger than the others. Farrell said it's not the price they're upset by, but the sentimental value."Oh I just hope they put it in an envelope and mail it back, the money doesn't matter just the ring," she said crying.The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is investigating the loss. They have a detective on the case interviewing the caregivers who were in the home at the time the ring went missing. 10News spoke with the care-giving company who said they interviewed their employees and said those employees hadn't seen the ring.10News did not name the company as law enforcement said they are not suspected of any wrongdoing. Clody said via email several other items went missing during the same time period, but that they were easily replaceable. (KGTV) - A new group formed on social media in response to the destruction of looters and arsonists after Saturday's peaceful protest against injustice.La Mesa Civil Defense is a Facebook group formed Monday by Attorney Scott McMillan. McMIllan was devastated by the chaos Saturday night, "we lost our museum, we lost our art gallery, we lost two of our banks... I did not want to see it [La Mesa] burn to the ground."McMillan said the goal of the page is to communicate how they will protect the town should anything happen in the future, "La Mesa Civil Defense is going to stand in front of the buildings with fire extinguishers and garden hoses and their presence."He said he stood at Nebo Dr. and Lemon Ave. from 7:30 p.m. Saturday night until 6 a.m. guarding local businesses and trying to get looters to stop causing destruction.He said a few people spoke with him.One man explained he was upset about George Floyd's death, McMiIllan said he responded saying, "how does breaking (a neighboring boutique that's been around for 10 years) her windows and stealing her merchandise, honor the memory of George Floyd?"He said the man left and came back to tell McMillan he was right.Those are the conversations he hopes blossom from this group and bring peace to La Mesa.McMillan said he is not asking anyone to use lethal force unless they feel like their life is being threatened.He said they are stepping in to help police and firefighters overwhelmed during these times. 10News reached out to La Mesa PD for a comment and have not heard back. 1571

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Thousands of MGM Resorts employees will lose their jobs effective Aug. 31, according to a letter sent this morning by CEO Bill Hornbuckle.Approximately 18,000 are being laid off. It is unclear how many Las Vegas employees will be affected. Most but not all of the MGM Resorts properties have reopened in Las Vegas.The hotel-casinos were forced to close because of the coronavirus pandemic. They were allowed to reopen June 4 but business has not been the same.MGM Resorts also operates casinos in Mississippi, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York and overseas in Macao. It is not clear how many employees at each locations are impacted by the lay offs. (CNS) - Helicopters made water-dropping sorties Thursday morning on fast-moving, out-of-control wildfire, which was 0% contained after scorching 10,500 acres in the Lake Hughes area, prompting the mandatory evacuation of at least 100 structures.The Lake Fire was reported at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near North Lake Hughes Road and Pine Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest, according to Marvin Lim of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which was battling the blaze along with Angeles National Forest crews, as well as assistance from the Los Angeles, Culver City, Beverly Hills, Monterery Park and Santa Monica fire departments.ABC 10News learned teams from Rancho Santa Fe, Vista Fire, San Miguel Fire, Lakeside Fire, Oceanside Fire, Camp Pendleton, Pala Reservation, San Pasqual, and likely San Diego Fire-Rescue were dispatched to assist in the firefighting effort.Three San Diego County strike teams will also respond, with each team bringing five trucks.As of 7 a.m. Thursday, the fire's size was listed as 10,500 acres, with three structures destroyed and 5,420 threatened, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No injuries have been reported.The fire west of Palmdale had a "rapid rate of spread," amid temperatures in the mid-90s, low humidity and gusty winds, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The forest service and county fire departments quickly called in second-alarm responses.The fire "will continue to grow and threaten the surrounding communities of Lake Hughes, Leona Valley, Lake Elizabeth, Pine Canyon and Three Points," the Los Angeles County Fire Department said about 10 p.m. Wednesday, adding air operations would continue overnight.By 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the flames had burned 400 acres, and officials said the fire had the potential to burn 1,000 acres, according the department.
