EL CAJON (KGTV) -- In response to growing concerns of the rapidly spreading coronavirus, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District officials have announced that they will be canceling in-person classes for a week as a precautionary measure.Grossmont and Cuyamaca college campuses will close the week of March 16-20 and temporarily shift to online instruction as a precautionary measure.“We are taking these extraordinary measures out of an abundance of caution,” said Chancellor Lynn Neault. “We are doing everything we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students, employees and the public, while ensuring that our student can complete their classes.”The colleges join numerous local and national institutions that are also announcing face-to-face instruction to quell the spread of coronavirus, including Chula Vista's Southwestern College, San Diego State University, and USD.Non-instructional employees will be on site during their regular work hours, according to officials."All student events for the next two weeks are canceled, and intercollegiate athletics games are cancelled through March 29. Dolly Parton spent Thursday at Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital to celebrate a deeply personal milestone. Her niece, Hannah Dennison, turns 30 years old on Sunday — a birthday Parton wasn't always sure she'd be able to celebrate."Twenty-six years ago is when Hannah was diagnosed with leukemia, and for five years we didn't know if we'd be keeping her or not," Parton told a room full of doctors, nurses, patients and families. "But Hannah now stands here as our chemo hero. She shows that miracles do happen with good care, great doctors and great nurses."Parton met some of those doctors and nurses last fall when she visited the hospital to release her first-ever children's album. EL CAJON (KGTV) — Parents and coaches near El Cajon are searching for the man who turned their little league field into a dumping ground."Had me angry from the moment I saw it," said Travis Hudson.Hudson is president of the Rios Canyon Little League. He showed us the old 17-foot-boat and trailer now resting just past the right field fence. Hudson says on Sunday afternoon, a man driving an old, white Dodge Ram truck dumped the boat and some tires, before coming back and unloading another a 20-foot boat. Hudson says one of his coaches confronted the man when he returned with another load, which included jet skis. The man claimed he was having issues with his truck and would return later to pick up the items. He never did.Hudson says near the dumpster, he found more items."Black bags and furniture items, which waste management picked up. Now we have stuff that has overflowed on the side, including clothes," said Hudson.After Hudson posted photos on Facebook, he believes a member of the community picked up the 20-foot boat, but the other boat remains."It hurts because the kids are going to be impacted," said Hudson.Hauling the boat away will come right out of their tight budget."We're spending money to get grass repaired, to get facilities repaired. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The son of sex offender Matthew Hedge pleaded not guilty Thursday in El Cajon to child molestation charges. Shaun Crocker, 34, molested a 13-year-old girl at least six times, prosecutors allege. Crocker appeared before a judge at the El Cajon courthouse on charges of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14. He was ordered to be held on million bail and return to court Aug. 16 for a readiness hearing.Crocker's birth certificate shows he is the son of Matthew Hedge, a sex offender convicted in 1989 of molesting four children. (KGTV) - The owners of the Cottonwood Golf Club in El Cajon have filed an application with the county to convert the property into a sand mine.Details were revealed at the Valle del Oro community planning group meeting earlier this month.The proposal calls for a three-phase mining operation over 10 years.The first phase would take place on the course west of the Steele Canyon bridge, which has already been closed to golfers.Sand is needed as a component of concrete, which has become scarcer during the construction boom of the past decade.The mine would produce a maximum of 570,000 tons a year, creating an estimated 170 heavy truck round trips a day from the site.The property is owned by Beverly Hills real estate agent Michael Schlesinger, who also owns the shuttered golf courses at Stoneridge Country Club and Escondido Country Club.10News reached out to EnviroMine, the consulting company involved in the plan.
